Dick knelt down on the dirty ground and cradled Tim's limp form against his chest. "Oh, little brother, what happened to you?" He didn't get a response-not that he was expecting one.
Dick didn't get a chance to turn around before there was a gun pressed to the back of his head. "He was stupid, and careless, and he got in my way."
Dick gasped in shock. "Jason? You did this? Why? We were leaving you alone."
Red Hood laughed, but there was no humor in it. "Yeah, alone in Arkham. Thanks a bunch for that."
Dick wanted to stand and face the man, but he couldn't let go of Tim. "That wasn't my intent. In fact, Tim and I were planning to get you out of there. The only thing that was taking so long was finding another...more suitable place for you."
Jason scoffed at him. "What? Like Blackgate?"
Dick shook his head remorsefully and felt Jason's gun pressed even more firmly against the back of his head. "We were thinking of a nice little safe house outside of Gotham. Some place where you would be comfortable, and we could work with you."
"Work with me? Don't you mean 'fix me'?" Jason growled at him.
Dick sighed as he stared down at his still bleeding brother. "No, we were planning to make a deal with you, Jason. We both know why you chose the path that you did. It's not because you're an insane psycho who needs therapy. It's because you're hurt, and you need family."
Jason brought the gun away from Dick's head just enough to pistol whip him with it. "I don't need any of you."
Dick shook his head, as if to clear it, and ignored the pain blossoming behind his eyes. "Yeah, I know, but we need you, Jason."
Jason stepped to the side, so that Dick could see him out the corner of his eye, and pressed the gun to Dick's temple. "I'm sure you do." Dick could tell that Jason was rolling his eyes underneath his mask. "Look, I'm busy, so just take the little unconscious bird-who keeps stealing my costumes, and get the hell out of here."
Jason holstered his gun and stepped away from them, but before Dick could say anything else, Jason was gone. Dick picked Tim up, and made his way home. Maybe one day they'd manage to bring their wayward brother home, but today was not that day.
The End
