A/N: meh, I've been kinda AWOL from FF for a while…. This is actually a thingy I had to write for English class. I think it's stupidly formal sounding. Well it wasn't assigned to be on Harry Potter, but you know. I just figured why not, it's just sitting on my hard drive anyway.
Disclaimer: is not J.K.R. Im just a muggle. Me don't own HP
Usually, anyone sneaking out of the Gryffindor common room after curfew would most likely be caught by a Prefect. If you were lucky, most Prefects let you off with a warning, and tell you to go to bed. If you were unlucky, you would be caught by the head girl, Lily Evans, and given a detention. Tonight, considering the head girl herself was quietly rushing away to the library at 1 am, the she didn't have a problem with it. After successfully retrieving the partially written essay that was all but forgotten on the study table, she briskly jogged back to the common room, wondering how she had forgotten to do her essay. Lily Evans had NEVER forgotten an essay, well until today that is.
*8 hours earlier *
"Hey! Hey, Evans!"
Lily Evans was sitting in the library starting a transfiguration essay she had earlier neglected. She had decided to break away from her usual study group, seeing as how they were being rather talkative today, and she needed to concentrate. It was only a week before Christmas holiday, so their behavior was understandable. Lily blatantly ignored the whisper directed at her from across the table.
"Evans!"
When the speaker realized that he did not have her attention, he began to prod her arm with the tip of his wand. After about 30 seconds of this, Lily's building irritation got ahead of her and she snapped,
"What do you want Black?"
"Well Lily," he started "Glad to see I finally got your attention. You see, Transfiguration is defiantly not my forte, and my 3 rolls of parchment due to McGonagall tomorrow haven't seen a drop of ink. So I need your help."
"Just get Remus to help you like you usually do. Or maybe even Potter! Why should I help you, you git?" she said.
"Well, Remus is 'sick' again and-"
"It's time already?"Lily interrupted
"Yes, and I'm not a git!"
"Ok fine, I'll help." She agreed "but only because Remus can't"
The pair stood up from their table and began to wander through the shelves, picking up various books on transfiguration. They then returned to the common room and set to work. They ended up finishing around midnight with a completed paper, and two tired Gryffindor. Sirius wished Lily a good night, and the two went up to their respective dormitories. Right as Lily slid the curtains on her four-poster closed, she realized something. She hadn't even completed her essay!
That's how she got here a few hours later, her fatigue almost tangible. Sitting in front of the dying fire at 4 am, under the invisibility cloak she reluctantly borrowed from James Potter.
"How could I forget to do my own essay when I've been helping Sirius with his for hours?" She internally screamed at herself.
Lily let out a yawn. "Note to self: Next time Sirius comes to me for help with an essay, send him to Alice. Especially if it's transfiguration essay, it's her best subject, not mine." She said to herself aloud.
The tired head girl let out another great yawn and set back to work.
