Light filtered through the layers of rubble and dust motes settled on the petals of a small pink flower. A few drops of old rain water dripped from the shards of a broken window and landed on the dry earth. In the distance people fought through piles of debris, remnants from the end of the world, ashes from a cleansing flame.
The survivors of Meteor would never reach this place. No person would ever see these flowers. Hundreds of them, one for every person lost, every soul finally brought to rest. Petals of every color and shape filled this space between the broken floorboards.
This small paradise would be crushed under the shifting wreckage of Midgar and left to rot. The flowers would suffocate under the wooden beams and scrap metal long before the memories of the deceased were forgotten.
Cities would bloom and die around this spot, wars would be fought, the world would go on, and somewhere, the woman who planted those blossoms so long ago would be finding her Promised Land.
