Hermione the Second

Hermione watched the Hufflepuff table cheering as the last person got sorted into Hufflepuff.

"Good, that's done. Now let's eat," said Ron.

Dumbledore got up for his annual, beginning of the year speech. " I have a few words to say…"

Harry and Ron grinned at each other. In their first year, Dumbledore had said just that, and his speech had been exactly 3 words.

" I think he's actually going to give a speech this time," Hermione said worriedly, looking at Dumbledore's face.

" Can't you think positive?" Ron grumbled. But Hermione turned out to be right,

" As much as I know how eager you all are to eat, I ask you to please wait through one more sorting." Curious looks were exchanged. " I have great pleasure in announcing that tonight's sorting will be a very special one. Due to a job transfer from her parents, Amy will now be attending Hogwarts!"

He didn't get as much cheering as he had expected. Dumbledore beckoned to someone waiting in the shadows, and a strawberry-blond-haired, blue-eyed girl stepped into the light, smiling shyly. As if on cue, every boy's mouth fell open and all their eyes bugged out.

Hermione nudged Ron. "She's not that beautiful," she said, although she had to admit to herself that Amy was prettier than any girl she'd ever seen before.

" Amy is from Lungets Wizarding School in America and she will be beginning her 5th year at Hogwarts."

Professor McGonagall steered Amy over to the little stool and Amy put the old Sorting Hat on her head. The hat murmured to itself and Amy for a few moments before shouting, "GRYFFINDOR,"

The hall burst into applause, most of which was coming from Ron. Flashing a dazzling smile at the Great Hall, she walked toward the cheering Gryffindor table. Ron and Harry instantly moved over to make room for her.

She sat down next to Ron and gave the table a friendly smile, "Hello!"

As they chorused a hello in return, they noticed that her accent differed from theirs.

Dumbledore stood up and smiled at Amy. "I hope you enjoy Hogwarts.

Before we eat, I would like to introduce to you our new Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher, Professor Vondok."

Professor Vondok stood up and the hall noticed the magical headphones floating next to his ears. He waved at the hall while tapping his foot and shaking his hips.

Harry noticed Professor McGonagall, who was sitting next to the new professor, edging away with a look on her face that clearly displayed she would rather not have anything to do with him.

Dumbledore appeared not to notice and said, "Now let's eat!"

As the food appeared, Hermione looked at Amy to see her reaction to the new teacher, but Amy seemed right at home. (a/n: Amy's thinking of the teacher's in America)

Ron looked at his food, then at Amy. He wasn't as interested in eating as he had been before.

Ginny took a spoonful of mashed potatoes and asked, "What's Lungets like?" "Well," replied Amy. "It's just like Hogwarts, only it's in America. However, we do have . . . ."
