She moans as his tongue slides over hers, and he pulls her closer to him as his hands find her hips.
She whispers his name softly as he kisses her neck, and her fingers find his shirt buttons.
She's halfway done with unbuttoning his shirt when the sound of her husband's voice comes from the hallway.
She goes rigid.
He slips quietly into the shadows of the library at the back of the office, where he can't be seen.
Within heartbeats of his disappearance, her husband appears in the doorway.
She stiffens with anger as she watches his eyes slide up and down the slim figure of the intern he's talking with.
She clears her throat loudly and says his name.
Alec jumps at the sight of her.
Cal watches from the shadows as she kisses her husband. A sharp pang of jealousy shoots through him.
He would always be here in the shadows, hiding.
Gillian glances back at Cal.
Their eyes meet for a fraction of a second before Alec leads her out the door.
Regret shadows her gaze as she watches a tear fall from his hazel eyes,
and the impulse to turn back is almost too strong to fight.
But she allows herself to be led away, and it breaks her heart.
