View from a shuttle window

*************
"We need to talk."

"This isn't working."

"I love him."
"I LOVE him."
"I love HIM."
*************

The pacifist shook her head to try and rid herself of these horrible memories. She gazed sadly out of the shuttle's window. Relena was happy that Heero had come to see her off, but he just had to bring that annoying excuse for a human being called Duo with him. They were all over each other and Relena couldn't bear to look at them for any longer, so she turned away. What did Heero see in Duo anyway? It felt so unnatural seeing Heero like this.

*************
"What do you mean you don't love me?"
"I've been thinking, and it's Duo that I really love."
"B-but, but he's a GUY!!"
"Yes, and?"
"It's unnatural!"
"It's perfectly acceptable in modern society for a man to love another man."
*************

Relena sighed sadly. After two whole years of chasing after him, keeping track of him, loaning him shelter, support and love, she had finally earned his heart. But it wasn't real love. It was just him being grateful and thankful. That 'Duo' hadn't even helped him in any way. Well, he had gone on suicidal missions with him, but that was all. What had to done to capture the heart of her only love?

Confused and miserable, Relena peered outside again. She caught of a little brown-haired boy, who was supposed to be waiting with his sister, but he kept wandering off to play with sweet little pig-tailed girl, who was standing nearby. Relena gave a weak laugh. The little toddlers reminded her of her own little love triangle. She was the older sister, Heero the little brother and Duo the little girl. "Duo looks enough of a girl anyway. Even if he makes a terribly ugly one," thought Relena bitterly. Relena watched as the sister scolded the little boy and he stayed by her side from then on, even if he did look longingly at the pig-tailed girl.

Relena wished things could be that easy but unfortunately, life was unfair.

The signal for the shuttle to leave sounded and Relena sighed and, slightly wishing, looked once more at the new couple. There they were, still fascinated with each other, but at least they now had some of their attention on Relena. They smiled and waved. Relena forced a smile and waved back.

"Are you happy that I'm going away for six months? Sure, I told you it's an important business trip for the promotion of pacifism, but I just can't bear to see you two together anymore. I doubt six months will be able to banish my feelings about you, but I will try. I can't do my job properly with this broken heart."

The shuttle slowly began to creep forwards and the waving from Duo began to get more enthusiastic which made Relena's heart feel heavier than it already was. "Does Duo hate me for keeping Heero to myself for so long?" Warm tears sprang to her eyes and snaked their way down her face.

The windows of the shuttle bound for colony L4 were quite dirty but Heero's eagle eyes caught sight of these tears. For a second, he had a concerned look on his face but quickly dropped it because he simply thought Relena was sad about leaving all her friends and family behind.

Inside the shuttle, Relena managed to catch this split-second change of expression and deep inside, a candle suddenly re-lit. However, Relena knew that she and Heero would never get be together and so the candle was reluctantly snuffed out.

With the shuttle's rhythmic humming and whirring, Relena quickly fell asleep. Trying to forget. Trying to be happy. Trying to banish the love. Wanting to find comfort in the hope of the future.

Now, wasn't that sucky? I had to write a story for an English assignment. 'View from a [vehicle] window'. It wasn't like this at first, but I modified it for Gundam Wing purposes. =P
