His pen quivered as he jotted and dotted a journal.
"The thunderstorms scare her most, though she seems entranced by the lightning." Victor toggled his glasses and took a sip of water. Talking aloud was a habit his father had, though writing and talking was unheard of by him, but Victor was hardly Vince's son by anything but blood, the man had recently performed a dark art forbidden since as long as anyone could remember on Victoria, and she was in more suffering now than ever.
"Victor?" her voice sounded like it was killing her as she spoke.
"Victoria." he breathed, the weakened girl stared with pain mixed with equal parts hope and fear.
"How can I ease your pain, Victoria?" the name was so similar to his own, as though it was fated he'd be bound to the source of his turmoil, everlasting pain, as much as caring for her and seeing her smile brought him joy.
Her reply came with tears rolling down her cheeks, "I feel hated, abandoned, no one loves me, and I'm an outcast."
Her words were repeatedly striking him with her own pain, he felt what he believed would be the closest he would get to being mortally wounded.
"I care for you-" Victor began dejectedly.
"No you don't, you're my doctor, something about being emotionally distant." she sobbed.
"Yes, I do, as though you were my own flesh and blood."
"Liar, you're good at it, though." She turned away from him and pulled the blankets up to block her view of him, but wanting to believe him, and so, for that very reason, she kept herself from doing so.
"Look at me," he began, before singing as sweetly as he could, "look into my eyes and know that I love you."
"Victor?" she mewled as he removed his glasses and closed his eyes.
His voice was drowning the thunder she hated as she hiccupped and watched her personal performance, complete with light effects.
"Look in my eyes and know that I'll protect you."
Victoria's plans to kill Victor's father bleed away with her anger, and she had great dreams that night, dreams in which she could fly, maybe Victor found that cure he spoke of.
Author's Notes: this is a song inspired fanfic featuring excerpts from Damien Rice's song "Look at Me", becauseā¦I thought he sounded a lot like Victor S. Court.
KHH out!
