"Ashley." She looks up at you with those big sad eyes and you know something is wrong. You've known for weeks. The way she's been avoiding you, pulling away from your touch and kissing you like it's a chore. You know what's coming. You've been expecting it since your first kiss. Once you reach heaven the only way left to go is down.

"I'm sorry." Sorry doesn't make it ok. Sorry doesn't make it hurt any less. Sorry doesn't do shit.

"I can't do this anymore." Could she even handle it in the first place? Does she really like girls? Or were you just an anomaly? A test to see if she swung that way? Did she ever love you? It's pathetic that she's breaking your heart and all you care about is whether she really loved you at all. You wish you could shrug and tell her you didn't care…but you do.

"It's ok." Not the words you want to say but you don't think 'how the fuck could you destroy what little hope I had left in humanity?' would make the situation any easier.

"We can still be friends." She tries to smile but it doesn't reach her eyes. You both know that the second she leaves things will never be the same. You can't go back to her just being your friend after everything that's happened; no one could.

You survived the whispers and the taunts, her mom and Clay trying to keep the two of you apart and the whole world trying to tell you how wrong you both were, and in the end she just gives up fighting, like you're not worth fighting for. Your not entirely sure anymore whether she's worth putting your heart on the line; but you have one last try anyway.

You kiss her with all the lust and love you have within you and she stays still. Politely waiting for you to finish. Tears stain your face as she hugs you one last time and then pulls away. You feel cold without her touch.

"See you Ash." What she really means is goodbye and I'm sorry, but typical Spencer is trying to gloss the situation over and pretend it's ok when it really isn't. You sit alone, numb and heartbroken.

You want to run after her and scream at her that it could work, that you could MAKE it work. But you know it wouldn't do any good. It's over. Her experiment has ended and the results say she doesn't want you.
