Disclaimer- I do not own Kieli. Just a fan.
Warning- This takes place after book five. Anyways, this is just something I thought of while reading the ending.
'This…This can't be happening. No, this has to be some twisted vision brought on by an evil spirit or a nightmare. Yes, that's it. It's a nightmare. I just need to wake up.' His unlit cigarette fell from numb lips, landing softly on the ground. He tried to move towards the girl, yet his legs wouldn't obey him. It was as though he was frozen to stand in this accursed spot; a spectator held captive in a never-ending nightmare. 'This isn't real. It can't be…..' A soft hiss of static interrupted his thoughts.
Kieli….. Corporal's voice echoed through the empty building, somehow solidifying the situation with that simple statement. His normally stern voice, seemed desperate, lost even. Despite the noise she continued to lay there, unmoving. Shoulder length dark hair cascaded down her wan face. Dirt marred her cheeks, and her clothes were in complete disarray. Nonetheless, her expression only held exhaustion. She almost looked as if she were asleep….
'I have to wake up….I need to get away from here…..Kieli...she needs me…'
She's….gone… Again Corporal's voice interrupted his thoughts. The simple words felt like a punch to his gut. Without warning, his legs gave out. He fell to the floor with a loud thud, yet still the girl did not even twitch.
'No…..no….She can't be…She's just resting….' He could feel his throat tighten as he continued to gaze at the scene. "Kieli…." He managed to ground out. 'Why isn't she moving? Why can't she hear me?…..Wake up…' Harvey's brain pounded relentlessly as he stared listlessly at the scene. Everything felt unfocused. Even the ground seemed to sway before him. Wet drops of water cascaded down his cheeks bringing him out of his stupor. 'When did it start to rain?'
Herbie…. Corporal called to him, his static-voice filled with emotion. Blankly Harvey turned towards the radio, hearing but not quite understanding his words. We can't just leave her….like that….
'No…no… It's not true….it can't be…..'
We need…. Corporal's voice hitched slightly, but he continued onwards bravely, We have to…. Bury her properly. Something awakened in Harvey jolting his all his senses online, as though he just received a bucket of cold water in the face.
"KIELI!" The loud anguished screamed filled the building, making the foundation shake slightly. He did not even recognize his own voice as he continued to scream until his throat burned. Someone, probably Corporal was calling to him but he was passed caring. The only thing he cared about was the girl that somehow ended up in his arms, as he continued to sob her name.
Author's note: I haven't been on here in forever. But alas I was attacked with plot bunnies for the first time in a long time. I've been wanting to write another Kieli story, and I feel after five volumes I could take another shot at it. I am actually surprised no one has written any drabbles concerning the latest volume. Anyways, as always, I am sorry for any grammar mistakes, etc. My excuse this time is that it's finals week and I am simply exhausted. There is probably major OOC-ness for Harvey; but honestly, I have no idea how he would act if Kieli were to really die (which of course, I hope does not happen.) Losing a loved one invokes different reactions in different people so it is hard to predict how one would act in such a situation. Well, I hope you enjoyed it, though it is not really a story in keeping with the Christmas/Holiday spirit. Oh well...
