Sirius was curious.
One of his best friends, Remus Lupin, had just received a new present.
Flashback!
It started out as a regular morning for the Marauders, consisting of Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew.
Then the owl post came, and unlike usual, a small, tawny owl dropped a square package on Remus' plate. Remus and his family didn't have much money, as you could see by his tattered robes, so his parents didn't send him packages very often.
Sharing a quizzical look with his friends, he opened the package to find a very small chest with a lock. There was a key taped to it, so Remus, still looking confused, opened it. He let out a quick gasp as he looked at its contents.
"Ooooooh, what's in it, Remmy?" Sirius said in one of his most obnoxious voices (and he had many).
As if snapping out of a trance, Remus looked up with a slight blush on his cheeks, looking as if he had almost spilt his largest secret. He quickly said, "What? Oh, nothing, nothing…" His eyes wandered back to the box but came back quickly. He slipped the key into his robes and started to talk about their classes.
Sirius was still curious, but decided to let it slide.
For now.
End Flashback!
It was about two in the morning, so everyone in the dorm was asleep except for Sirius. He had been looking for the key to the box for the past half-hour, to no avail. He was thinking of giving up, when he realized something. "Duh!"
He headed to his bed to get his wand, and began performing every charm he knew on the little box.
Nothing worked.
He was getting desperate, and because being Sirius Black, he couldn't just let it go, he had to see what shocked his friend so much.
He started to name any random spell, and said one that changed the box to a toad. It made a loud croaking noise, which woke Remus up.
He was clearly shocked (as anyone would be) to see Sirius leaning near his bed and a large toad where his special box was. Realization dawned on him, and he quickly performed the counter-curse on his box.
He took the key out from underneath him, (Sirius mentally slapped himself, it was so obvious, how could he have missed it!) and unlocked the box. Remus took one look inside, looking at the contents.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Remus exclaimed. His knees were on the floor, and his bed muffled his cries.
This display woke James up, but, not surprisingly, Peter.
Not able to contain himself, he looked inside the box and saw……………
About fifty chocolate frog wrappers.
"THIS is what you were so happy about? I can just get you that for Christmas!" Sirius exclaimed.
Remus looked up, and said, "Well… it's different."
Sirius was shocked his logical friend had just got that hysterical over chocolate frogs. Oh well, back to sleep.
He and James went back to bed, leaving Remus to mourn the loss of his fifty chocolate frogs.
So naturally, it was a normal night for the Marauders.
