Charla rushed at the Rosie and stabbed it in the chest. It used its Rivet Gun to push her away toward an old, rotting desk. Charla smirked under her helmet as she leapt onto the desk. It thought it was going to get away. It thought that it was going to kill her so that it could harvest her Little Sister. She didn't doubt this for the Rosie had already harvested two Little Sisters for its own gain. It wasn't going to have Molly, too.
Charla teleported behind the Big Daddy and charged into his back with full force. Her impact caused the monster to crash forward and break the porthole on his helmet. Molly stepped back in fright. She was almost pressed against the wall. Charla turned over the Rosie and thrust her long needle into his chest. She extracted the ADAM and felt it rush through her veins. She sighed and turned to Molly who smiled up at her.
"Sister!" she exclaimed happily.
Charla silently reached down and lifted Molly so that she could climb into her iron basket. Then she sprinted down the hall to return to Sofia Lamb. Lamb would be very pleased to get this specimen back.
Once she had handed over the Little Sister, Charla went for a swim by herself. None of the other Big Sisters liked her very much. They found it a little unsettling that she genuinely enjoyed killing for the sake of killing. Lamb found it very useful but she said it interfered with Charla becoming a true Utopian. This was shameful for Charla because she desperately wanted to be like Eleanor.
Eleanor. Kind, beautiful Eleanor. Charla was so conflicted between becoming a Utopian for Sofia Lamb or aiding Eleanor in finding her Big Daddy. She was always talking about him to the Little Sisters that her mother held captive. It was so odd that they still had such a strong bond. Charla could barely remember her own Big Daddy before he was killed before her eyes. She mostly remembered her unexplained excitement when a Big Sister carried her away in a basket. She did have to admit that it was fun riding in the basket.
Eight years later, she was doing the same thing with other Little Sisters. It was fun to take the little girls for a run in the basket every now and then, but then their ADAM would be harvested until the Little Sisters barely had enough energy to survive. She also didn't enjoy being drained of ADAM herself, but if it was for Eleanor, she'd give all of her ADAM just to make her even more perfect.
Charla swam by a large window and saw Eleanor staring out at the sea mournfully. She looked startled when Charla suddenly came into her view. Charla felt her cheeks grow red and was thankful that Eleanor couldn't see her face. But Eleanor blushed, too, and gave her an awkward smile. That's when Charla suddenly remembered that Eleanor had a unique connection to all (including former) Little Sisters. That would mean that…..she knew how Charla felt around her.
Charla's heart started pounding and she looked down nervously. But when she looked up again, Eleanor had her hand pressed against the thick glass and was genuinely smiling at her. That smile could melt hearts. And those blue eyes….
"Sister," Eleanor said telepathically. "I appreciate the envy, but…please don't worship me. I'm not a goddess. I'm not holy. I'm not as perfect as you all want me to be." Her smile disappeared. "I'm barely even human anymore."
Well, neither am I, Charla thought.
Eleanor heard her thought and offered a half-hearted smile before turning around and walking away from the window. Charla was annoyed by this. Why did she have to be so mysterious all the time? She had to admit that it was enchanting of her. She wished that Eleanor wouldn't call her "Sister", though. They weren't related and it was just weird.
Charla swam away and was greeted by the lonesome sea.
