Disclaimer: I don't own Tale of Two Cities

The night after Charles was sent to La Force Lucie had quite a strange dream. She dreamed that she had died. She was the last in her family to pass away and as the gates of heaven opened up to her there was a man with a book of life in his hands. He looked through the book for her name and then with a sigh said, "I'm sorry. I don't see your name in here. I'm afraid you cannot be admitted"

Lucie was distraught. She wasn't worried about the torment she would suffer but rather she was upset about the fact that her family was gone from her forever.
"Just a minute"

Lucie heard a voice she recognized. She looked up. It was Sydney.
"I told her once I would do anything for her. I mean it. Don't put her aside. Let me take her place"
"L-let you what?"
"Please," he said
Lucie was unable to say a word. It was partly because she was not able to speak. She was so overcome with fear and a huge gratitude towards her friend.

"Why would you want to go through this? She messed up. You didn't"
"She is my friend," Sydney explained.
"She must be some friend. I must say this is a large display of love. I cannot subject you to eternal suffering for the fact that you loved. I will let her in and you will spend only a week outside of the gate" The gate was opened to Lucie
She woke up from the dream. It was strange. Was this foreshadowing? Would he go that far for her? She would find out soon enough.
