Hi Fanfiction! I was in the mood to write a one-shot about Leo Valdez... so I did! :D
Anyways I hope you all like it! And disclaimer, I do not own the Heroes of Olympus books even though I wish I did.
It's not that he liked running away, it's that it was the only thing he could do now.
Meet Leo Valdez, fifteen-year-old delinquent kid from Texas. He's always on the run. Constantly one step ahead of the pain because when he stays in one place for too long it comes rushing back to him. Haunting him. All the awful things that have happened in his life that left him alone in the world.
No mom. No dad. Not even a relative that will take him in or show him any little bit of respect. And now here he was, leaning back on a leather chair in the police station in Nevada acting like he couldn't care less about where he was going to be sent this time. Because for Leo, it is all an act.
"Well, well, well Mr. Valdez." Said the officer walking to see Leo and holding a folder in his hand. Probably with Leo's record. It is a very think folder since Leo has caused so much trouble in his life. "Looks like you've had quite a tough existence."
Leo shrugged. He had already promised himself that he wouldn't talk so there won't be any more problems. He wouldn't meet this guy's eyes either. He stared at his feet.
"A runner, huh?" the man continued. He knelt next to Leo. "I've met quite a few of 'em like you, but you are by far the youngest."
Leo shrugged again.
"You don't talk much do ya? Oh well after looking at your files I can tell you've caused a heap of trouble. We've tried sending you to bunches of foster homes and you seem not to like anything." He paused as if waiting for Leo to say something, but nothing again. "Well I'm sure if you just explain yourself then you can find something to your liking and possibly a home."
The officer smiles and Leo looked away. He's heard it all before. 'We can find you a home.' What they don't understand is that he doesn't want a home. He can never replace what he had.
"Like I'm saying, if you just explain your motives we can help you. Probably a lot more than you think." Leo said nothing for he knows that they can't fix up his life like a machine. The officer sighed. "Sorry then, Leo. There is nothing I can do now. You'll have to go to a correctional school, The Wilderness School; it's a boarding school for kids like you. I think you might like it. And trust me, if you run away from here you are not gonna like your next option."
Leo's heart sank at his last comment. He's been waiting for it. He knows that he's heading down the road to juvenile detention.
"So will you please give this school an honest try, Leo?" The officer pleaded.
"Yeah." Leo said. The first words that he'd said to the man. "I will."
"Good. I can tell about you, Leo, you're a nice kid. I'd hate to see anything bad happen to you."
Too late for that, Leo thought to himself.
