Because of Her
Summary: Every time I see you, I see her. A very short Snape story.
Description: In my mind, Snape is to Harry as Batman is to Gotham City. Not the hero he wanted, but the hero he deserves. Snape's inner thoughts on Harry.
Every time I see you, I see her. Most people will say that you resemble your father: dark, unruly hair and a wide grin paired with a tall, lanky stature. But I always see your eyes, completely your mother's, and it's those that stay engrained into my memory. That bright, curious green that invades both my dreams and nightmares. I think that is why, no matter how much I may try, no matter how much your smile looks like your father's taunting smirk, I could never bring myself to hate you. There you were, a constant reminder of what happened and what could never happen, and I still could feel nothing but a sort of adulation, as if you were my own lovable, though highly exasperating child.
Because of her.
Because of Lily.
I couldn't save her. No matter how many nights I wake up gasping in horror, no matter how many days I fill with contemplation of how I could have possibly protected her from her demise, I couldn't save her.
But I can protect you. I can save you, prevent the last shard of her that rests in you from crumbling away. And I promise you, I promise her, I will until my last dying breath.
