She woke just after dawn as orangey pink light streamed through the curtains and replaced the moonlight.
She hadn't slept this well in years and yet she couldn't help rising with the sun.
She couldn't help wanting to watch him sleep. To see him at rest, before his eyes opened and immediately started taking everything in. Before the wheels in his head started turning.
She watched him now, asleep beside her with his face to hers and one arm hanging loosely around her waist. He looked like a man without troubles or cares. She imagined that even in sleep his mind was working overtime. Still, it was nice to see him quiet.
She smiled a little, thinking of their daily repartees. He always had an answer. She always had a retort.
Speechlessness would never be the problem.
He left her breathless.
The way he moved. The way he thought. The intensity he put into his work. It was hard to keep up sometimes. Still, she was having the time of her life trying, and living, and working with him…
…and falling for him.
She moved forward and brushed her lips against his. His immediate response startled her as his grip around her waist tightened and he pulled her body flush against his.
He hadn't been asleep. He'd been awake the whole time, letting her watch him…surprising her, challenging her as always.
He chuckled against her lips, reading her mind. She paid him back with a soft bite to his lower lip. The chuckle turned to a low growl and he swiftly turned them on the spot, pinning her to the bed and sending a thrill through her.
This was how they worked. The push and the pull. The give and the take.
Every move they made they made together…
Every call he cried she answered…
…and every breath she lost he gave back to her.
