So Happy Together

"Summer?"

"Yeah?"

"What date is it?"

"Thursday…"

"Not day, date!"

"Um, isn't it the 24th?"

"Crap."

Seth sat up suddenly from where he was lying on the sofa beside Summer. Summer looked up as her boyfriend got to his feet, and began pacing the room nervously.

"What's up?" Summer asked, carelessly.

"Today is Ryan's birthday!" Seth hissed, in a total panic.

"And you forgot?" Summer asked in disbelief. Seth hung his head in shame.

"I knew it was soon, and my Mom was on about organising a party, but they're always having a party. It completely slipped my mind that it was a birthday party!" Seth explained, rubbing his forehead in thought.

"Well you know what this means, don't you?" Summer asked. Seth looked at her in confusion.

"Ryan's getting a homemade card for his 18th birthday?" Seth suggested stupidly.

"No!" Summer replied, rolling her brown eyes, "We're going to the mall!"

She smiled happily, like a six year old who'd just been given candy. Seth collapsed onto the bed.

"Not the mall…" he moaned.

"What? You love the mall!" Summer told him. Seth took his hands from his face and looked over.

"No, Summer, you love the mall…" Seth explained.

"But you never complain when we go shopping!" Summer reasoned.

"Yes I do, but you're always too busy trying on shoes to hear me…"

Whatever, we're going to mall. Come on Cohen, get your jacket!" Summer exclaimed, getting to her feet and pulling on her jacket.

"Explain to me, why are we going the mall?" Seth asked.

"For Ryan. For Ryan's gift!" Summer replied.

"Oh, for Ryan? So, we're not going for you at all?"

"No, now come on!"

"Mommy, do I have to?" Seth said, imitating a child in response.

"Cohen!" Summer yelled, heading out of the door. Seth followed reluctantly.
