Sora always carried around with him a big gold heart on a fine gold chain.
When he opened it a little nonsense melody came out and he could hum with
it. He never showed Donald and Goofy because also inside the locket were
pictures of him, his mom and....
His dad.
He wasn't ashamed of his dad. Quite the opposite, he missed his dad very, very much. That was the reason Sora never wanted to talk about him, it just hurt too much.
There were four pictures in the locket. One with him cooking with his mom, one with him helping fix a roof of a house with his dad, a family portrait only he stuck out his tongue for laughs and a picture of him and Riku messing around with the camera.
Sora looked exactly like his dad. Sparkling blue eyes and spiky brown hair, Sora always daydreamed about being as strong and respected as his dad when he was younger.
He remembered the day of his father's death like it was yesterday. His dad went out on one of his repair jobs. Today he was gonna fix the town hall bell tower. Sora remembered being told that there were very strong winds that day and not to go outside by his mom. Next thing he heard was that his dad's ladder was blown over and......
Tears still sprung to his eyes when he remembered this. It just hurt so much, and still in order to cancel out the memory he had another one.
It was bittersweet but it always helped. His mom always collected music boxes. She said it was how she met his father. He came over to fix her favorite music box and soon after asked her out on a date. Sora always thought this was very cheesy but still a fun story to tell.
His mom's music boxes never actually played any recognizable tune, just snippets of patterns here and there. His mom always played only one at a time but Sora always wondered what it would be like to hear more than one at once.
Sora refused to go to the funeral. He did not wish to see his father's broken body. He wanted to remember his father as the strong man he always was. So Sora was left in the house to grieve on his own.
Sora looked at all the music boxes and decided that his tribute to his dad will be this. He went around winding each box letting the delicate music tinkle, sweetly, the music boxes did not make a mess of sound, just a gentle song that intertwined through each other's patterns.
The last music box to play was the one that Sora's dad fixed.
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
When Sora's mom got home she gasped as she saw her son in the middle of the living room fast asleep listening to all the music boxes. The last one to end was the little locket clutched in his hands.
Sora's mom removed the glittering piece of jewelry and looked at the pictures inside. She grinned at the one of all three of them, Sora always the prankster.
The locket held a fond memory for her. It was the first music box she ever got from her mom. But one day the clasp broke and it fell off her neck. She was mortified when she learned it couldn't play its little tune anymore, but her mother called the repairman.
He couldn't come that day so he sent his son instead. The tall, brawny youth was very gentle despite his looks and fixed the locket in a matter of hours. Then he asked her out.
Five years later they were married.
She held the locket to her chest knowing she would never wear it again then she put the small chain around Sora's neck and carried him to bed.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
Sora will never forget his dad, even if he couldn't talk about him.
The locket made sure of that.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
Okay, just a little KH ficlet I needed to get off my chest. Hope you like!
