Close enough to brothers.

The first time Kurt met Cooper it was in the hospital after Blaine got hit by the slushie. He recognised him from the photographs in Blaine' bedroom and apparently Cooper recognised Kurt too since he ran over and grabbed his arm, "Where is he? What's going on? What the hell happened?" Finn hovered there awkwardly, not sure if he should be protecting Kurt from this guy who, quite frankly, looked a little mad. Kurt explained what had happened, that the doctors were with Blaine now but wouldn't let anyone who wasn't family in, and Cooper let go of his arm, rushing into the small room, the new directions were sent home soon after that and Kurt didn't see him again.

The next time Kurt spoke to Cooper was stupidly awkward, he and Blaine had been lying in bed laughing together when Cooper had knocked at the door, "Is it okay if I come in?"

"Uh, not really." Blaine said as Kurt turned red and buried his head in the pillow.

There was a slight pause then, "Okay, well when you come down could you bring your computer? Mine's busted."

"Sure." Blaine said, kissing Kurt' shoulder in an attempt to get him to reappear.

"Thanks… Hi Kurt." Cooper called through the door before laughing and heading downstairs as Kurt turned even redder and muttered his own hello, even though he knew Cooper couldn't hear him.

Kurt didn't see Cooper for months after that, according to Blaine he'd argued with his dad and left in the middle of the night, heading back to LA where he worked. Kurt and Blaine had gone out to see a movie and they were going to take advantage of the fact that Blaine's parents were away. They'd just unlocked the front door when suddenly there was Cooper, dancing by himself and drinking what looked like brandy. He'd grinned when he'd spotted them and put his cup down, rushing over to grab Blaine's arms and make him dance too as Kurt stood there laughing.

Kurt moved to College a few months after the drunken dancing incident, he'd only been in the city for a few weeks and as much as he loved it he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed, and a little bit scared. He was sat in his dorm one night, trying to work up the courage to go out on his own, or call someone from one of his classes, when there was a knock on the door and he opened it to find Cooper Anderson holding a takeaway bag. "So I was in town for a conference and Blaine said you'd just moved here, figured a brother could use company."

"Brother?" Kurt repeated, blinking at the man.

"Well close enough. Blaine gave me your address." Cooper explained, "I know how freaky new places can be… But if you've got plans then…"

"No, no plans." Kurt moved to let the man in, "You didn't have to…" He trailed off awkwardly, not sure what he was going to say. You didn't have to come here, you didn't have to bring food, you don't have to babysit me…

Cooper grinned and sat down on Kurt's bed, handing him the bag, "Hey, figure'd we should get to know each other better since you're obviously gonna be in Blaine's life for a longtime." He grinned, "Family's important right?"

Kurt smiled, "Right." He agreed, sitting down and listening as Cooper started a story about Blaine falling off a rocking horse when he was five.
