Happy Cody Day everybody! This isn't much, nor will it be the best story you've ever read, but it is my small homage to Cody fans everywhere.
Cody awoke to the tantalizing smell of pancakes and bacon, ultimately the best smell to ever grace his nose before 10 AM. Hungry, he bounced down to the kitchen to find no one was there, except for the plateful of breakfast-y goodness awaiting him. First birthday present of the day! he thought excitedly as he began to scarf everything down.
Since it was Saturday, and every Saturday has to begin lazily, Cody slumped down on the couch and started channel-surfing. Nothing caught his eye until...
"A Twilight Zone marathon?! In the morning?! No way!"
An hour of mystery later, Cody decided to do something productive. Another hour of mystery later, Cody actually did something productive. He got dressed and headed out to Noah's house.
"The best way to celebrate your birthday would definitely be to go to the arcade," Noah preached. "And I spent all night in between the couch cushions finding you the necessary quarters."
"Aw, Noah, you shouldn't have," Cody gushed.
"Oh really? Because I can keep them if you want me to."
"No, no, I don't think that will be required," Cody said, taking the bag of quarters from his hand.
Noah smirked and rolled his eyes, and they set off to the local classic arcade, the center of the nerd universe.
"999,700 points!" somebody screeched in Cody's ear. "You could break 1,000,000!"
Cody was furiously playing his favorite game, and arguably the hardest game in the arcade, Spaceship Laser Death. No one in the history of the game had ever broken the impossible 1,000,000 point barrier, until a certain gap-toothed geek on April 1 did.
Sirens went off and balloons fell from the sky as Cody shot the last laser at the last alien spaceship, thus beating the game with maximum points. A picture of his ecstatic face was taken and hung on the wall in memory of the great feat.
On the way back from the arcade, Cody received a call from an unknown number.
"Uh, hello?" he answered tentatively.
"Hey Cody, it's Gwen."
"Gwen? Hey, Gwen!"
"It's your birthday, right?"
"Yeah!"
"I was wondering if you want to see Wizard Battle 4 with me tonight. I have two tickets!"
"No way, that movie just came out!"
"Yeah way! Meet me at 8 in front of the movie theater."
"Alright, see you then!"
"That was quite possibly the greatest movie I have ever seen," Gwen remarked after the movie.
"When the green wizard made that fire spell... Wow. That was the best Wizard Battle yet."
"Ice cream? My treat!"
After sharing ice cream, Gwen and Cody stood on his front porch.
"Thanks for everything today," Cody said.
"Hey, birthdays only come once a year! And I had a really great time with you," Gwen blushed.
Cody leaned in to kiss her, but then disaster struck!
He woke up.
Cody sighed, burying his face in his pillow. One year, I will get the perfect birthday, he thought.
One year.
Oh man, that turned out way worse than expected. I guess that's what happens when you brainstorm ideas for a month, don't decide on anything, and then at ten o'clock you decide to whip something out before going to bed. All day I was waiting for the perfect idea to come to me, but it never did, as you can see here. Anyway, I hope you didn't groan as much reading it as I did reading it over, and who knows? Maybe you even smiled. I doubt it though, this was pretty bad. Happy Cody Day, and I'll see you later. -Ellie
