I Can't Always Just Forget...

Matt paced the dingy apartment that he and Mello shared. The blonde had been gone for hours. And not the normal hours, hours hours. It was nearly midnight and Matt was worried sick. He had left constant answer phone messages, texted him till his fingers hurt, there was just no reaching him.

Normally, Matt would have just given up and gone to bed. But tonight was different. Matt had prepared dinner that lay cold and congealed on the still laid table; the candle in the middle just a barely lit stub. Mello knew about it, and his excitement showed on his face when Matt told him.

'Mello never forgets, he just doesn't' Matt thought, his brows creasing. He picked up his phone, and speed-dialled Mello's phone number, just to be met with the same message. Matt left yet another desperate reply, begging Mello to pick up his phone. He closed his phone gently, letting the tears slide slowly down into the rim of his goggles. He lifted them up, and threw them onto the floor into front of the couch.

All The Things That You Never Ever Told Me...

"Mello?"
"Yea?"
"Do you have secrets?" Mello turned his head to face the younger boy sitting on the floor. Matt paused his game, and returned the stare. Mello shrugged, and focused his attention on his nails.
"We all have secrets Matt."
"... Oh."
The boys broke the eye contact and Matt went back to playing his game. The room they shared at Wammy's orphanage for Gifted Kids was silent for a moment. Awkwardly silent.
"I'm, Erm, gonna go get some more chocolate" Mello said unsurely
"Kay" Matt replied, not looking up from his game.

I Get The Feeling That You're Never Alone, And I Remember Now

It was the same routine every morning. Mello awoke before Matt, made breakfast for himself, showered got dressed. When he was ready to go, he'd tiptoe into the bedroom and smile at Matt's 'sleeping' figure. He lean down and kiss Matt gently on the cheek.
'I'll be back soon, my love' he'd whisper, then turn to leave. He'd reach the front door, and turn to check all the lights were off and see Matt standing near the couch, rubbing his eyes. Mello would walk back in, sighing. Matt would stretch, and smile at Mello who would be standing in front of him shaking his head with a smile on his face. Matt would step forward, and they'd wrap their arms around each other, in a warm embrace. They'd part, and Mello would kiss his boyfriend on the cheek, before reminding him he would be back before dinner, and there was pizza in the fridge if he wanted it. Matt would nod, and with that, Mello would turn, walk out the door, and shut it behind him.

Feeling there was no other option, Matt went into their shared bedroom, and closed the door, leaning against it. His eyes scanned the room, and when he was sure he was alone, he moved to the bed. He lay on it, groping underneath for something hidden to the bird's eye. Sure enough, he found it. He pulled out a hastily closed, beaten up cardboard box and lifted it onto the bad with a grunt.

He ran his hand over it, feeling the texture. He shouldn't be doing this, and he knew it. With a deep breath, he opened it, being careful not to rip the flaps. He'd had nothing but bad memories from this box, and didn't want a repeat.
