Yugi was a teen boy, small, frail, weak, but strong in will and strong with trust in his friends. He was given a puzzle box on his birthday and with it's completion, he gained extraordinary powers, and a mysterious friend. Now, that friend needed his help.

"Atem? Atem, where are you?" Yugi woke up inside his millennium puzzle. His other half didn't answer which was unusual when Atem took over for the younger boy. Inside the puzzle was also strange and unfamiliar to him. It wasn't his usual soul room but instead was labyrinth hallways and doors. A trail of blood led his way. He was sure it was Atem's. Yugi, now even more worried rushed in the first room he came too. Inside he saw Seto, who sat against the wall staring blankly. Yugi lifted him up from under his shoulders trying to wake him up, calling out his name, "Seto!"

"It's no use." A voice came from behind him. "That's not Seto Kaiba anymore. It's his destryed mind."

"Who are you?" Yugi asked. He didn't bother with the question of how did you get in here because he didn't even know himself. He wasn't even sure if he was inside his puzzle at all anymore.

"We met once before, on Duel Kingdom. Do you remember?" I let you go with the millennium puzzle because your soul was light and worthy, but now it has become corrupted. You're other half, Yami, his soul is deteriorating into darkness. I am Shadi."

"Oh, I remember now. We met at duelist kingdom. Can you help me find him?"

"I don't know which room he is in, but I can guide you through this dangerous labyrinth of disaster."

They went awhile up and through hallways, some that were just dead ends and others that lead to door which held many of Yami's mistakes and regrets.

There was the giant worm that swallowed Ushio, the burnt corpse of the robber who held Anzu captive, and the terrible shadow game that almost destryed the world.

Yugi became more and more devastated with each door. How could my Yami do this? He thought. But that was just it. His Yami was his other, much darker half with no regards and no memory of his past life. But, his new life with Yugi taught him to be compassionate and kind and when he finally remembered what he had done before, when he was a beast, before Yugi tamed him, Yami sunk into the blackness of his beastliness and corrupted the other half of Yugi's soul.

"Where close." Shadi spoke. "My millennium scale is swaying from one side to the other ready to weigh the soul of Yami."

Down the last hall they searched came a large ancient door. Shadi commanded it open and there he was, Yugi's dark half covered in crimson blood, hunched over, and growling like a beast.

"Yami!" The lighter boy ran over to the heaping mess that was the other half of his soul. A thick black aura radiated from him. Shadi held out his millennium scale and the side of the feather flew up.

"You have failed the test of the scale." Shadi said. "Prepare to be punished."

"STOP!!" Yugi ran in front of Shadi. The millennium scale switched sides and the feather dropped down weighing Yugi's soul. "You can't punish Yami. This isn't his fault."

"He's lost to the darkness of his actions but once again you have saved him. Your soul is still light and more pure than a feather. I will be back again." Shadi echoed leaving the world of the puzzle.

Yugi turned back to the beast. "Yami, please, come back to me. I made a wish that you would never betray me!"

Yami's pupils grew large and he let out a roar shaking the puzzle world.

"What you did was to protect me. All of us, Anzu, Jounouchi, Honda.

Yami grew small and curled into himself. His fangs no longer baring and the room no longer shaking.

"Yugi," He whispered. "Thank you for saving me." With that, the younger boy was released out of the puzzle.

"Yami...." Yugi held the puzzle tight against his chest. "That was a close one. Don't scare me like that. Don't turn evil."

End.
