Charlie sat down next to Don on the couch. He handed one of the two beers to him and sat in companionable silence.

After a few moments Charlie said, "How's it going?"

Don picked at the label. He replied, "It's going."

"Ah."

Don rubbed his chin, "Yeah."

With quiet resolve Charlie replied, "Don, you know you can talk to me ….talk to me about……… about anything."

"Yeah Charlie I know."

The brothers lapsed into renewed silence.

"Good cause you know you've been there for me so many times before. It's my turn now."

"Yeah Charlie I know and I appreciate it."

"Okay."

Charlie started to get up when Don spoke in a quiet voice. "It's becoming harder for me to just turn it off. I'm going to darker places than I've ever been before."

Charlie said nothing just settled back down on the couch to listen to his brother talk or not talk.
