Friends

The song Friends was written by Michael W. Smith and Deborah D. Smith and is performed by Michael W. Smith. This is a sequel to In the End, There's Farewell. This story is dedicated to Ithica who gave me the idea for this type of story (okay, I copied) and who befriended me in the s8 chatroom before anyone else, making me feel welcome.
Friends
The trio, plus Angela, sat in the library doing various things. Broadway and Angela were sitting on the couch watching Lexington play Nintendo 64, while Brooklyn sat up in one of the dark lofts reading a book. Angela had the radio tuned in to a soft love station with a rather annoying female DJ.
Lex addressed her without even looking up. "Hey , Ang, you wanna turn that down? I can't hear my game."
"Sorry, Lex." She said sarcastically and reached to turn down the volume.
"No wait!" Broadway said. "I love this song." He pulled her hand back from the radio and turned it up.
Brooklyn, who was ignoring the three until now, set the book down and shrank back into the shadows as the melody filled the library. . .
Packing up the dreams, God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the lord of them
And a friend will not say "never"
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime is not too long to live as friends
With the faith and love God's given
Springing up from the hope we know
We will pray the you live in
Is the strength that now you show
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the lord of them
And a friend will not say "never"
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime is not too long to live as friends
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the lord of them
And a friend will not say "never"
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime is not too long to live as friends
Brooklyn dropped down to the floor and wiped the tears from his eyes, the sweet remembrances of Anabella. But that was a long time ago, and one shouldn't dwell in the past.
He got up and returned to his book in time to hear Lex say:
"Oh yeah, great song Broadway." Lex said sarcastically. "If you want to pour your heart out about some dead person."
Broadway shrugged and turned his attention back to his mate.
"Would ya turn it down now?" Lex asked and raised the volume of his video game.
They don't understand. Brooklyn said to himself. They just can't comprehend what that meant to me.
He placed the book back on the table and put his head in his hands, weeping.
