Dae-Lyn stared out of the window as the rain fell from the sky. She loved rain. It was the act of it falling wherever it like and, in a way, she wanted that kind of freedom.
Dae had always been kept inside due to her condition. She was born with Congenital Amputation, meaning she was missing her right arm. This stopped her from doing things that other kids would find themselves doing. On top of that, Dae had absolutely no friends. The only friend she had her Great Dane, Gunter, and he was her best friend. He protected her all the time. He even went to school with her.
The sounds of the pots and pans clanging together in the kitchen alerted Dae-Lyn that her mother was baking in the kitchen. Sliding off the window seat, Dae wandered into the kitchen, with Gunter following behind her. Upon entering the room, she found her Father, Lucas, hurriedly rushing about, grabbing tins and boxes for food and stuffing it into a duffel bag. Upon seeing Dae-Lyn, Lucas grabbed her and dragged her up the staircase, pulling Gunter along as he went.
"Honey, Listen, There are bad people outside right now and I need you to hide." He spoke as he opened the closet in His and his wife, Ethel's, Bedroom. He pushed her inside and handed her a small hunting knife. "I need you to hide here with Gunter. I'll come back soon."
All's Dae could hear was her own breathing and Gunter panting. Her heart was pounding so fast, she thought it would break through her ribcage. She listened intently, hoping that her Father or Mother would come and get her, but, it seemed that was not going to happen.
Gunter suddenly started growling and, the sound of sickly grunting and hacking could be heard on the other side of the door. Dae held her breath as she peered through the slats, gasping as she saw her Father, but, he was very different. Very VERY different.
He looked sickly, and, his skin was peeling terribly. Slowly, she pushed open the door and stared at her Father, who had tumbled over to the window. Gunter crouched in a protective manner, his teeth bared.
"Papa...?"
He spun around and Dae screamed. Her Father was not her father anymore. He came running at her, his rotting face coming so close to hers as he snapped his teeth, trying to get a bite out of her. Gunter pounced, sinking his teeth into her father's skull and tearing it to shreds.
Dae screamed as she watched this happen, before falling down onto her knees, kneeling next to her Father's side.
"I don't know what to do." She sobbed. "Papa, tell me what to do!"
