Prowl gave a sigh he flopped down onto the ground. Rolling onto his back he
gazed up at the midnight sky. It was clear and the light from the two moons
made it nearly as bright as day. Hearing something in the foliage behind
him rustle and crack the lion sprung up and hissed.
A large elephant pushed it's way into the meadow. It gave a startled trumpet as it saw the lion ready to spring into attack. "Well that's a nice way to greet yer friends." It said with a huff.
Relaxing, Prowl let out a sigh. "Hello Ironhide." Flopping down onto the ground again the lion resumed his stargazing.
Ironhide looked down at his friend. He could tell that he was bothered by something. "What's buggin' you?"
"Nothing, I've just been thinking."
"About what?" With a grunt the Ironhide settled his form next to Prowl's.
"About what Opitums Primal told us." Prowl let out another sigh and looked over at his friend. "Are we actually the originals in different forms or are we just cheep knockoffs that have their names and memories?"
Ironhide shrugged. He had actually been thinking the same thing since he'd learned that after the original Ironhide's death the Autobot scientists had tried to recreate him, using the salvageable circuitry and memory files. The same process had been performed on the original Prowl and Silverbolt. He guessed that the results were less then satisfactory because they had been placed in portofrom stasis.
"I don't know. Some egotistical part of me wants to think that yeah, I'm that guy, I'm the great hero that was loved by millions across the universe. But another part of me says you can put all the memories, all the circuitry and all the attitude chips you want into a protoform to try and recreate someone but in the end the spark is still different." Hearing the soft beating of wings, Ironhide looked into the sky to see a giant bald eagle soaring overhead.
"Anythin' new up there `Bolt?" He called up.
With a bank of his wings the large bird came down and landed with grace in front of them. "Not much. So what are you two talking about?"
"About what Primal told us." Ironhide responded, "We're wondering if we're really them or just clones."
Giving his feathers a ruffle as Silverbolt spoke. "I say a little from both."
Prowl's ears perked up and he looked towards his friend. "How so?"
"We were created in their image, to take their place. They gave us their memories so we would have their experience and know how they lived. But how we live, how we use those memories is up to us. We're our own persons. We can break away from the shadows and create new lives. Our originals could never do that. They had a specific standard that they _ had_ to live up to. They couldn't change even if they wanted to."
"We're a new beginning then." Ironhide said.
Silverbolt gave a nod. "Yeah. Like the phoenix, we've risen from the ashes of our originals to begin a new. We're different from them but some part of us is still the same."
A stiff silence gripped the group as they all took the information in and came to their own conclusions. While they'd do their best to try and live up to the standards of their originals they knew it would never be possible to totally replace them. They would use the knowledge of their originals to create their own niches in the universe while never forgetting that it was from them that they had been born.
