A/N: A short little excerpt from a much larger fic, that I may or may not, ever actually work on and finish. Not to mention, this is mostly word vomit with little to no editing. Still, I hope you enjoy and feedback is appreciated.

Kenzi wiped the blood from her cheek and once again picked up the sword. How many times had she done this today? Ten, twenty, a hundred? She scoffed. It didn't matter. She would pick up this blade a hundred times more if meant the chance to cut off that all-knowing smirk.

Consumed by thoughts of impending vengeance, Kenzi nearly failed to notice the form charging towards her. With a month's worth of learnt swiftness, Kenzi quickly brought her sword up above her head and blocked the downward swing of Rainer's blade.

Sparks flew as a loud screech tore through the air. This Fae-hole was relentless! Kenzi grunted beneath the weight of his blade as it bore down further on her own.

Oh, how wrong she was to think him offensively inept. Because not only could Rainer fight, he could fight well, really, really, well. And it was annoying, because not only was she wrong, she was also having her ass handed to her.

Kenzi never liked losing. She especially didn't like being duped. But even she had to admit; he was good at feigning helplessness. Cause no else would have ever expected this lumberjack to be a hidden Master Miyagi.

Kenzi shook her head, a playful little smile tugging at her lips. She centered her weight and threw off Rainer's blade. An action which successfully sent the ancient Fae back a few steps before he righted himself once more.

Rainer watched the young ebonette with keen, observant eyes. He held his sword loosely in front of him as he noted, with a twinge of unease, that she was smiling. Nothing good could come of this, he thought wearily.

Kenzi straightened her stance; both feet planted a hip's width apart and aimed her sword at Rainer, "I'm ready!"

Without a moment's hesitation, Rainer attacked! He came at her with the force of a rabid dog. His blade clashing against her's with artless ardor. He was ruthless. However, Kenzi was expecting this. And she planned on using that fact against him.

The second an opening from the onslaught presented itself, she took it, twisting her body away from the fray. Rainer's blade narrowly missed her as it cut through strands of hair before embedding itself in the dirt. Kenzi took this split-second opportunity to sideswipe Rainer's leg with her blade.

Rainer grunted against the glancing blow and fell to one knee. His gaze instantly went upward, towards the lithe girl who still held her sword protectively between them. He glared at her, even though there was no real heat behind it, and moved stand up once again.

Kenzi let out an audible gulped and took a hesitant step back. Had she messed up? Did she somehow manage to go too far? These questions played on an endless loop as she locked eyes with what she now truly realized was an ancient Fae.

Rainer casually dusted off his jeans before regarding the fidgeting girl beside him. A proud, almost father grin was spread across his features, "Now that was more like it!"
