The sun beat down on the lovers, blistering their burned and bloodied skin through their torn clothing. Each touch was hotter than the last, and they stumbled in the desert sand as they tried to keep going forward. JD stumbled again and almost fell. Buck reached back, caught his hand, and pulled him. "Come on, Kid. This ain't gonna beat us." His sweat-soaked mustache twitched. "We're gonna get home, get our horses back."
"We're lost in the desert, Buck!" JD wailed, his thirsty and dry throat rasping. "We're never gonna get home!"
"Yes, we are! They'll find us! We just gotta keep goin'!"
They kept trudging forward until JD fell again. Buck tried to pull him back up, but the sand shifted beneath his boots, bringing him down too. He fell across JD and found himself gazing directly into his love's burned and scared face. He kissed him.
"Buck," JD protested, "this's no place for - "
"I can't think o' anythin' else I'd rather do," Buck countered, burrowing his fingers into JD's thick, black hair and knocking his bowler from his head, "or any better way to die." He kissed him deeply, his tongue thrusting wildly into his mouth.
JD was just beginning to respond to his love's fiery kiss and kiss him back in full when a shadow fell across them, blocking out the sun for the first time in days. JD blinked. A stern voice cleared. "All right, stud. Wrangle in yer stallion, an' let's go get y'all's horses."
Buck lifted his head with a huge grin despite the laughter that surrounded him and JD. "See? I told ya they'd come!" He helped JD up as he shot his smile at Chris. "Chris, ya old dog! Took ya long enough this time!"
JD was beaming in the bright sunshine. He hurt all over. He and Buck had almost died after being attacked by a ruthless gang of outlaws and being left without their horses, but the guys had come. They had come for them, he thought as he was surrounded by hands clasping his back. Their family was here! Finally, they were saved! They'd get Milagro and Beavis back, take those outlaws in, and pay them back for what they'd done to them and to others. Justice would win again, and his beloved family, The Magnificent Seven, would ride triumphantly back home and be happy and safe again!
