Chapter 1: Forgotten Past

Black:

As my eyes slowly opened I realized I was in what appeared to be an infinite expanse of blackness, Suddenly I heard a voice speak from within the darkness.

"You abandoned your mission to help Lord Gwyn rekindle the First Flame and were slain by your own men for your betrayal. Nevertheless he was successful but, the fire is fading once more and I want youto make sure that it does, so go, be reborn and usher in a new age, an age of darkness and I, Kaathe will make you ruler of it all."

Lord Gwyn? The First Flame? A traitor? All of these things sounded familiar but i couldn't seem to remember what anything meant, except that I was a traitor and was killed for being one.

These were my last thoughts before the abyss enveloped me…

Silver:

*Crash* As my eyes drifted open I stared up at a terrifying sight the demon who guards this asylum slamming his hammer through the roof mere inches away from my head. The impact of this blow sent me tumbling a few feet away and almost falling off of the roof of the asylum and down the cliff face below.

I know I won't survive a direct hit from that demon, but what to do… My sword! That's it! As I quickly draw my sword I see the hammer heading straight for my head, with no time to move I do the one remaining thing I can, bracing my hand on the back of my sword and praying to whatever remaining deities there are that I survive this blow…

Black:

*Crash* What was that?! I thought as I jumped at the noise that had startled me awake, looking around I realized I was in a cell with a barred door. The door was locked but the bars were so rusty that I simply broke them away with my hands. Immediately upon exiting the cell I heard another crashing noise right before a chunk of ceiling fell down a few feet in front of me, along with a shining silver-clad knight.

"Damn, that hurt, but I'm still alive, too bad that demon broke my sword." Upon saying this the knight took a drink from a small flask, then turned and saw me "A Black Knight!" She (for it was a woman) said in a shocked tone "I thought you all died when Gwyn Re-lit the First Flame."

Again with those words that sounded so familiar… "I'm sorry to tell you this but I have no clue what you're talking about I can't even remember my own name." After I said this I took a good look at my hands and realized they were clad in black platemail.

"Wait you mean you don't remember anything at all?"

"No, in fact until just now I didn't even notice that I was wearing black armor, you called me a Black Knight, right? What does that mean?" I asked.

"It means you were a part of the group that accompanied Gwyn on his quest to Rekindle the First Flame, you were an elite knight hand picked by Gwyn himself. Ah but I forget my manners my name is Silver I am a Silver Knight, a defender, well ex-defender of Anor Londo, the city of the gods."

"There you go again with those words I can't remember the meanings of, the ones I feel I once knew, so familiar but yet so foreign, the ones like Gwyn, The First Flame, and Anor Londo… I beg of you, please, tell me what they mean." I said with despair.

"Gwyn was the one who discovered The First Flame, which is the source of all life and the foundations of our civilization, but now only embers remain of it, for it is soon to go out, and with it all of civilization. As for Anor Londo that is the name of the city Gwyn built for the gods..."

Silver:

After explaining these things to the strange Black Knight he paused and appeared to contemplate something, he looked as though he were going to tell me something but then thought better of it. Whilst looking at him I noticed that he had what appeared to be the jagged remains of a Black Knight's sword with half of the blade broken off strapped to his back I also noticed that he didn't have a shield on his back, perhaps he lost it?

"So what now?" I was broken out of my thoughts by the Black Knight's voice.

"Huh? Oh, now we have to find a way out of this place"

Okay where to start… "Well I guess we'll just follow this hallway."

In the Hallway we encountered a few pink skinned weaponless hollow which I took out easily with my fists and not much else, at the end of the hallway there was a ladder which we used to exit the tunnels, upon exiting we found ourselves in a courtyard with a large set of doors on one end, the very same courtyard I had looked upon many times while trapped on the asylum's roof.

"Where do we go now?" The Black Knight asked.

"through those doors I guess, are you ready?"

"I don't see why not, after all it's not like I have any other choice..."

Black:

As we entered the doors I heard footsteps above us, as I was turning to ask Silver if she knew what was making them a massive Pot-bellied green demon came crashing through the ceiling, instinctively I felt my hands fly to my back and draw a jagged sword I didn't even know was there.

When I looked to my left I saw Silver pull her shield off of her back and brace her hands upon the back of it. Mere seconds after she did this the demon charged at her, I felt my legs moving of their own accord as I charged up behind the demon and slashed at its left leg with my sword which while broken was still quite sharp and bit deeply into its leg stopping it in its tracks and causing it to stumble and almost fall.

As the monster turned its attention to me Silver charged into its left leg with her shield ramming it directly against the gash I had made, when Silver did this it caused the demon to fall, I quickly climbed the monster's side and drove what remained of the point on my blade into its skull.

As I removed my blade from the beast's skull it quickly began to vaporize into a white mist that then went directly into my chest, strangely though it didn't hurt, quite the opposite in fact, it made me feel stronger than ever…

Silver:

"Well that's that I guess, oh right I meant to give you one of these earlier" I said pulling out a dull emerald-green flask.

"What does it do?" He asked.

"When you drink it your wounds will be healed."

"Really?" He asked incredulously.

"Yeah, but right now it's empty, so you'll have to refill it at a bonfire, oh and by the way that demon you just killed, it dropped this key" I said as I hefted a key the size of my forearm.

"What's a bonfire?"

"I'll explain later this key is really heavy, go try it on those doors over there."

"Here goes nothing…"

Black:

As I placed the key into the lock and turned it the doors swung open of their own accord, exposing a path up a hill leading to… a cliff and nothing else.

"What now Black?"

"I guess we follow the path Silver."

"Yeah, but it ends at the top, then what?"

"I don't know, we'll just have to see when we get there"

As Silver and I climbed the hill I heard loud flapping behind us, and then a massive talon wrapped around me and another grabbed Silver, the last things I remember before blacking out were the screams from Silver and the huge sense of vertigo…
