1x09 "But At Last Came a Knock"

Ian ran out the door and started running to the only place he could think of to go. He felt the tears stinging his eyes. No, he thought, I won't cry. I am stronger than Monica. I can't let her do this. He blinked and continued sprinting through the streets. He raced up the stairway in the front of the building and banged on the door. Once. Then, twice. Then again. The door opened to reveal Mickey Milkovich standing in the doorway with a look of distaste. Ian looked at him with desperate eyes, "What the fuck?" He asked with slightly confused eyes.

Ian looked at him harder and blinked his eyes, "I need to see you." His stomach churned.

"Not a good time," Mickey replied looking back into his house. Ian could hear Terry inside yelling about something.

Ian stuttered. "I-I-I don't know where else to go." His voice shook. He hated that. He sounded weak. He looked straight at Mickey and bit his lip. He felt slightly dizzy from all of the events of today.

Mickey gave him a slightly desperate look, "I thought you were working today."

Ian replied, "Uh, Linda's gonna have my ass." He took a deep breath as he shifted his feet. He continued, "I'm supposed to be there now."

"I'll meet you there in 20," Mickey looked only a little sympathetic. Ian was sure he had to care more than he let on, but he didn't have time to worry about that now. He ran the rest of the way to Kash and Grab's with his legs shaking wildly. When he opened the door and walked in, Linda was already standing inside waiting for him. All she did was give him a dirty look as she walked out the door. He sighed and sat down trying to calm his breathing. He sat there like that, waiting and wishing he had a normal mother. Or a normal family or life or anything. As he kept thinking about it, he got more and more anxious. His breathing was fast and shallow. He looked up to see the door open. Mickey walked into the store and made sure no one else was there. He locked the door and walked to see Ian at the desk breathing heavily. "What the fuck, man?"

Ian stared at the floor as he continued breathing unevenly. He shook his head, "Monica. Sh-" he paused to look at a confused Mickey, "My mom. She is back and she was at Sheila's and Frank and her were there and Debs was freaked out and I- I just- I can't-" he breathed and Mickey cut him off.

"Hey, breathe, 'kay?" Mickey said worriedly. "Don't need you passin' out or nothin'." He looked at Ian, who was looking at the ground. He was messing with his hands and pulling on some paper thing he found lying there.

Ian replied by standing up on his wobbly knees and taking a deep breath. He started walking past Mickey to the room they always fuck in. Mickey said, "Wait a sec." Ian started to turn, but Mickey hit his butt. "You have dust on your ass." This made Ian smile and Mickey returned the smile. They walked to the back room and fucked like there was no tomorrow. Ian even held his hand while they did.
