A/N: Just a little drabble from tumblr. Remus and Sirius post-Hogwarts, pre-Lily and James in hiding (now a legitimate era of time).
"Padfoot what are you doing?" Remus laughed, his breath visible in white bursts as he tried to keep pace with his boyfriend. Sirius had arrived back at their small flat -technically Remus' but Sirius hadn't been back to his own in months- with eyes reminiscent of a seven year old who'd just found out the icecream van was outside, and without a word he had dragged Remus out of the door. They had run through the high street, past straggling Christmas shoppers wrapped up warm in scarves and woolly hats, past children begging their parents for "just ten more minutes, please!" at the park, and Sirius had only just started to slow.
"Look Moony!" He beamed, pointing at a small enclosure near the forest's edge. "Trees!"
Indeed they were, Christmas trees of all different sizes lined up neatly and waiting to be bought. "Pads I thought we agreed we weren't doing a tree this year? There is a war going on you know," Remus reminded him gently. "We can't afford to keep indulging."
"It's not indulging! Remus one tree wont bankrupt us. Come on, the war is just one more reason to buy it. Please? It'll be a constant reminder that there will be a life worth living when we're through kicking the asses of any stupid death eaters."
Sensing that Remus was weakening, Padfoot bounded over to the man selling the trees and with a broad grin bought the largest one there. It was magnificent but- "Padfoot that will not fit in our flat!"
"We'll make it fit."
There was no arguing with Sirius when he used that tone, and Remus didn't doubt him. He just hoped they'd have a flat left to live in once Sirius was finished with the poor thing.
It took a lot of effort, swearing and grunting to get the tree from the forest enclosure to the block of flats. It took a lot of insulting Sirius' intelligence- "Who the fuck buys a fucking tree in fucking Winter!"- and strength to get it up the stairs to their front door. Getting it in the front door… Well Remus would survive having a few pine needles embedded in the door. Now there was just trying to stand the damn thing back up.
"No no no, Padfoot stop that's the-"
There went the bookshelf.
"Wait Sirius, let me get the other end or you'll hit the-"
And that would be the table.
"SIRIUS BLACK STOP MOVING BEFORE IT HITS THE-"
Two hours. It took them two hours to get the tree stood in a corner. Stood amongst the debris that had once been things in their flat, Remus and Sirius shared a look of relief and pride before dropping to the ground in exhaustion. Christmas carols were playing from the record player Remus had managed to save, and for a while all they did was lie there, admiring their handwork and exchanging fond glances. Overall, it hadn't been a bad idea on Sirius' part. If anything it was endearing to see him so excited.
"Just think Moons, tomorrow we get to decorate it!"
Or maybe now would be a good time to move in with James and Lily. He didn't want to see Padfoot either set the flat alight by using candles as decoration, or electrocute himself by using muggle lights.
"We'll talk about decorating tomorrow Sirius. For now you owe me a hot chocolate."
