Heero sat on the floor, writing the note. It was one year to the day that his life had been smothered by darkness, the day his best friend had died. Laying next to him was the knife he would use. He finished his note and reread it.

To my friends and family:

I'm sorry to have to do this to you, but I can't stand it. Duo is gone and isn't coming back. He was my best friend who I could tell anything to, and I can't take that he's gone. If I leave, maybe I will find him. Here are my last words to you all:

Trowa, Quatre and Wufie,
Take care.

Zechs,
I'm sorry for all of our fights before. Make sure you take care of Noin. You'll never know how much a wife means to you unless they're gone.

Hilde,
I wanted you to be one of the last, because I have something to tell you. Duo always said that if anything happened to him, tell you that he loved you. I'm sorry for not telling you sooner, but I just couldn't.

Relena,
I kept you for last because I need you to know something. I love you, and I always have. I should have told you earlier, but. . . I don't know. Maybe you loved me back. But know this: Thank him for being my best friend. I love you forever, Relena.

This is my last goodbye. Take care, I love each and every one of you.

Love always, Heero

Heero folded the note, and took the knife. Not hesitating, he slit both of his wrists.

Relena stood outside the apartment door, afraid to knock, but she had to. This was it. She would tell Heero she loved him. It was now or never. She knocked on the door. There was no answer. Testing the doorknob she found it unlocked. She opened the door a bit. " Heero?" she called.
Opening the door wider, she gasped. Her Heero was lying on the floor, a knife beside him. She ran to his body and felt for a pulse. It was there, but faint. Relena raced to the bathroom, found some bandages, and fixed up his wrists as best she could. She found the phone and dialed 911.

"911 Emergency Line."
"My friend just tried to kill himself!"
"All right, calm down. Where are you calling from?"
Relena gave the address of Heero 's apartment.
"How did he try suicide?"
"He slit his wrists, but I think I found him in time. I bandaged them up, and he has a faint pulse."
"Okay, we'll send an ambulance."
"Thank you."

Relena hung up and knelt beside Heero. She saw a note beside him, and she picked it up and skimmed through it. Seeing the note to her, she let the tears she had been holding back flow.

The paramedics arrived in time. Heero 's life was saved. As he lay in his room the door opened. It was a nurse. "Mr. Yuy, will you recieve a visitor?"

"Sure," he replied, not caring. Relena walked in.

"Relena!" he exclaimed, siting up against the pillows. Relena sat down on the chair next to his bed. She took a piece of paper out of her pocket. Heero looked at it, and saw it was his suicide note. He looked out the window sheepishly, but Relena said something that surprised him.
"Heero, I was the one who found you. The reason I was at your apartment. . . Well, I was going to tell you that I love you."

Heero looked up. "Really, Relena? How do I know you're not just saying that?"

"By this." Relena leaned over and kissed him passionately on the lips. Then she stood up to leave. "I've got to go now, Heero."

As she walked out the door, Heero called out, " Relena?" Relena turned. "I love you." Relena smiled and left.

Author's Notes: Yes, I know. I wrote a pretty sappy, happy, ending. Don't worry, folks. Better stuff is coming.
