Sherlock Holmes isn't mine. He belongs to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This particular plot bunny bit while watching Jeremy Brett in the "Dying Detective". Please don't sue I have no money and unfortunately do this for fun and experience have yet to be good enough to make money by writing.

I should mention this takes place inside Holmes' head and is my interpretation of what he could've been thinking.

I have been asked to this party to observe. One man might suspect I have been asked here to observe him. He has intelligence but I don't think he's as good as I am. Oh yes! He suspects. He is fishing for why I am here and as I watch him and our hostess I see no love or even liking is lost between them. I watch the other guests talk about foolish things. One goes on and on about hunting and tries to make comparisons to my work and his weakness. While he does have a slight point he is just a fat fool. His wife is unhappy with him. She looks down her nose at him. She is wishing he would shut up. As does the rest of the table which is probably why I was asked what I observed. Our host looks awful. Feverish is truly the best way to describe him. He also looks haunted. As the men and women separate to go play a silly game and chatter and gossip, I walk upstairs to watch our hostess and her children. What I see makes me think, the little girl says her father felt like a corpse. Hmm…how true he doesn't look at all well and I am afraid the child is right.

Well it has happened Victor Savage is dead. Watson of course has had his head turned by Mrs. Savage. Same old Watson. Always the romantic eh old friend. Watson is demanding that I take action. What he doesn't understand is that this villain is devious, cold blooded and has an implacable hatred of our social system. Watson, Watson, what you never understand is how the ones who are outside looking in feel. I can understand but this man this Culverton Smith is wrong he hates. I know what he has done and what he does now he does for a sort of revenge against the system which has made him an outsider never realizing that his own actions have spoken against him so strongly. To bring Smith to justice will take devious methods. I have gathered information. I know he has killed, he tries to rob a woman and her children of their home and livelihood. And as I watch Watson comfort Mrs. Savage my soul rebels at the thought of Smith winning. So I tell him what he won't want to hear the doors of London's science and medical circles will close I will see it done. Ah the game is afoot!
