"Jack," Ianto leaned over and took the hand of his boss and lover, squeezing it gently. "Are you alright?"
They were stood on the bridge, looking over into the dark, murky depths of the river. It's monotony was strangely soothing, something could be counted on in the unpredictable chaos of their lives at Torchwood.
Jack turned towards Ianto, their hands still intertwined on the railing. His eyes met Ianto's and, as always, some of the oppressive dark clouds that threatened to overwhelm him sometimes lifted a little. He leaned into Ianto's body, grateful for his physical presence and his empathy with what he was feeling. The deaths of Owen and Tosh had effected Ianto badly too, but he didn't seem to be taking it quite so hard as Jack was.
"It's okay to miss them, sir." Ianto said, draping an arm around his lover's shoulders, hoping that the use of his pet name for Jack would help somehow. "But don't blame yourself."
Jack sighed, dragging his gaze away from Ianto's and looking out at the water again. "I do miss them," He said, his voice sounding faraway to Ianto's ears. "Immortality isn't all it's cracked up be," He sighed again. "Continually losing the people you love. Owen and Tosh were my family, Yan."
"I know," Ianto replied, wrapping his arm around Jack's waist now as they resumed their stance looking out at the water. "But I'm not going anywhere Jack, I won't leave you."
Jack leaned his head against Ianto's shoulder, falling into this man's wealth of love for him. He knew he had been lucky to find someone like Ianto but knew that this was both a blessing and a curse, because someday he would have to sacrifice him too. But for now, his promise was enough for Jack.
