There was just something about them. They'd been an annoyance, one which must be crushed before Rising Star. We were the official school band and they were imposters.

Learning that my Mo was playing bass in this new band had come as a shock, and it had felt like a betrayal. Like she was cheating on me. Ironic really. Only that morning she had discovered me messing around with Jewels. There was nothing in it really, but she took it to mean I was cheating on her, which I would never do; Jewels cornered me. She's that kind of girl.

And here they were. Lemonade Mouth about to perform for the first time. I could tell how nervous little Olivia was. She had problems with stage fright, and while I empathised with her a little, remembering how I had felt in the early days of Mudslide Crush, I still didn't particularly want them to perform well. They were the competition after all.

The crowd booed a bit and Ray jeered at them beside me. That was so typical of him so I told him to quit it. I didn't want to make this any harder for her than it plainly was.

The piano started and from the moment she started singing something changed. Her voice was beautiful, which I hadn't expected.

When the tempo changed suddenly and they all kicked off, I was taken aback. They really were great. They were definitely competition for us. Everyone was dancing to it, their choreographed moves easily picked up by the crowd.

As Mo started singing backup, I was impressed. She was belting it out. Good for her, about time she had a chance to shine.

After Determinate they protested against the removal of a lemonade machine in the basement. Then it made sense. That was where their skill lay. In their passion. They had the guts to stand up and try and change the world. About time someone did. Brenigan shut them down of course but they'd made their impact. They were here to stay.

There was definitely something about them. They could make it big. And Ray was getting on my nerves lately. Jerk.
