A/N: I WILL make this pairing work.
Kat left work early that day, not for the first time. Looking over her shoulder quite a few times more than usual, she dodged the surveillance cameras, taking a less-monitored route down the hallway, and finally taking the stairs instead of the elevator. One more obstacle had to be conquered: the 50 bucks to the guy in charge of the parking garage for his silence, and then she was out of there. She knew where she had to go; it was a new place this time, but he had given her perfect directions. Though she knew where it was, however, she still didn't know exactly what kind of place it was. They liked to keep it interesting. She smiled as she thought of the past three months- maybe the best she could remember having. It had been a long time since someone valued her, bought her presents, remembered her birthday, all those types of things. She had been unsure at first about how this was going to work out. It sounded outrageous, of course. Who would ever think that a relationship with him would ever work? They were both always working, hell, work was their lives! As much as she loved her job, he was more...well, he was made for his job. She smiled at the thought of him doing anything else with his life, with his temper. At first, she had refused to let herself get too far into this. She had learned not to lose her head over guys; it had never worked out well for her before. So she had played it cool, told herself it was just another fling, something physical, not emotional. But they were past that now. They were-was she actually saying this-in love? After about 15 minutes of riding, she arrived at her destination, and smiled as she looked around. An abandoned gas station? Well, who said he wasn't creative? She left her new Kawasaki, the one he had bought her only last week as what he called an "i love you present" near some bushes, and waited for him to show up. She didn't have to wait long, until her eyes were covered with someone's hand, a little colder than normal body temperature, and heard "guess who?"She turned around and threw himself into his arms. "I missed you.""I always miss you.""How was work today?""Oh, I think you know," he said, laughing. They both swayed together for a minute or two as they hugged. "So," Kat said, finally disentangling herself from his arms, "why here?""Well, this isn't the exact place for...later activities," he grinned, but we are at a gas station..."Kat was confused, for a second, and then smiled too. "Was I supposed to bring the matches?""Got 'em right here."A few minutes later they were both a mile off, on the top of one of the town's many hills, silently enjoying the view. Every fire department within a mile had come to try to put out the blaze. Kat laughed as yet another explosion went off and threw a few firefighters into the air. She looked over at the most important person in her life, and was happy to see that he was smiling too. But then again, he was always smiling.
