Something Big
Slowly an eighteen year old Joanne walked out of her house and into the garage. Her fingers nervously played together as she approached. She could see her dad working on something, she wasn't sure what but she didn't really care, she had something to tell him, and it was either now, or never. She wanted to never to tell anyone, but in the end that would lead her to unhappiness, causing her to shut out her friends, and most likely her family.
Butterflies played around in her stomach as she came closer, her hands now shaking. "Everything is going to be alright…my dad will understand he supports everything I do."
"Hi kitten." Mr. Jefferson called out, causing Joanne to be pulled from her thoughts.
Joanne tensely smiled. "Hi…"
"What's going on in the house?" He asked as he walked over and put down one of his tools.
Joanne gradually walked out of the sunlight and into the garage, her heart pounding with fear. "Nothing…but uh…dad…can I tell you something…"
Mr. Jefferson's face fell with worry, the sound of her voice telling him it wasn't good. "Of course you can tell me anything."
"Um…it's kind of big." Joanne said. "But you have an open mind right? You wouldn't kick your own daughter out of the house?"
"Never…" Mr. Jefferson replied. "Joanne what is it? You're scaring me…"
"Uh dad…" Joanne said tears now stinging her eyes. "I don't think…I don't think I like boys…"
"Why!?" Mr. Jefferson jumped up with concern. "Did one try and hurt you!"
"No…" Joanne said while shaking her head. "It's not that…I think…" She took in a deep breath before she finished. "I think I'm gay."
Mr. Jefferson blew out a sigh of relief, his face softening a little. "Is that all?"
Joanne's eyes were glued to the ground until she heard is reply, her eyes now darting up to meet his. "What?"
"Is that all?" He asked.
"Yeah…" Joanne said uncertainly.
"You scared me for a second; I thought you were going to tell me you were pregnant." He smiled.
"You're not mad…or ashamed?" Joanne asked, her tears now starting to dry up.
Mr. Jefferson chuckled while he threw an arm around her shoulders. "No I'm not mad or ashamed. Why would I be ashamed of my daughter, you're just being who you are…and that's what I care about the most."
It was now Joanne's turn to let out a sigh of relief. "Can we just not tell mom yet…I'm still afraid of her reaction."
"I would be afraid too." Mr. Jefferson laughed. "But just know this Joanne, you have my support. And when you find that lucky lady, I will be right behind you. Heck I'll even through you a commitment party."
"Thanks dad…but who knows when that will happen." Joanne laughed. She then skipped back into the house. Even though she had yet to tell her mom, she felt like the weight of the world was lifted off her shoulders, making her a little happier inside.

Short and the ending was weird...but I like writing Joanne even though she may have seemed a little OOC in this...
