Ricky carried Lucy back to their cabin. Any other time, and he would've made a comment about her being so heavy, but now was not the time. He was just glad that she was finally aboard the ship, and he wanted to get her back into the room where she could rest. She had conked out when the helicopter had dropped her off. For once, Ricky felt sorry for his wife for having to go through all that. Missing not only one boat, but two.
When he got to their stateroom, he gently got the key out from his pocket and opened the door. Lucy was just coming to when he set her down on a chair. He kissed her cheek softly. "We're back, honey."
She slowly opened her eyes and took a look at her surroundings. It took a moment to register they were aboard the ship. Then she started to remember the events of the last couple hours. She shook her head. "I can't ever do anything right." Tears threatened to fall.
"Shh, don't say that. You're here, you're safe. That's all that matters now."
"Yes, but look at me! I'm in my slip for crying out loud! My torn slip for that matter." She had to give back the suit the helicopter pilot had loaned her. "And the whole ship was in turmoil because of me. Why did you ever agree to marry somebody like me?"
"Because I knew from the minute I saw you I loved you. And I still do, even when you're like this."
"But why?"
"Because of the reason you did it. You just wanted to hug our baby one more time." Ricky gently squeezed her shoulder.
Thinking of Little Ricky only made Lucy want to cry some more. She would be separated from him for so long. The longest she'd ever been separated since he was born.
Ricky knew what she was thinking, and he gently chased her tears away with a kiss. "He is in good hands. I never thought I'd say this, but I'd trust your mother with him more than anybody else."
That made Lucy want to cry even more. But she resisted this time. Instead, she started a passionate kiss that they would never forget. She suddenly couldn't wait for what their trip would hold.
"Thank you, darling."
"What for? I didn't do anything."
"You were the one who called for the helicopter, weren't you? When I got to the airport, they said it was already taking off. I thought I'd missed my chance yet again."
"Well, yes, I did call for the helicopter. I wasn't just worried about you coming aboard safely. I didn't want you to risk it by going up in the air. But I'm impressed. You actually did it. I don't think I'd be able to do something like that." He hugged her again.
"It was pretty frightening at first. But it was worth it. It got me here, didn't it?" She smiled.
"Yes. And with Fred and Ethel here, we're all going to have a wonderful time. We should probably just put this incident behind us."
"Even if the entire boat makes a fool of me?" Lucy hung her head in shame. She was always the butt of people's jokes, and getting into situations that no regular person should get into.
Ricky took Lucy's hand and squeezed it. "You make our marriage exciting, Lucy. I'll say that. It may not be like a regular one, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me the best possible gift. Our son."
Lucy made a promise to herself that from now on, she wouldn't get so worried thinking about their son. She wanted to enjoy their trip.
"Maybe we can start working on having another one on this trip." She grinned.
"We'll see." But in the end, Ricky locked the door, and put the "Do Not Disturb" sign up. He wasn't going to let anyone or anything interrupt them tonight.
The End
