"Y'know, you're kinda weird."

"You're really weird, too. No offense intended."

"None taken."

"So...wha' d'ya wanna do?"

Kaien felt around in the dark, grasping at nothing in particular. The storage closet was confining and every time he made even the most fractional of movements, something would poke him in the ribs. Too many boxes, he thought, trying to shove one out of his way. He yelped when something crashed on top of his head and sent him sprawling forward onto Gin.

"Hey!" came the cry.

"My bad..." He straightened himself back up into a sitting position and elbowed the object that had hit him out of the way. He couldn't deny this was not how he had imagined his day going. Then again, being stuck in a storage closet with someone as creepy as Gin Ichimaru had its advantages: they wouldn't be found.

Kaien cursed his luck anyway, though. This was the final time they tried to steal Byakuya's hair band and get away with it. Next time, he could almost guarantee they wouldn't be so lucky.

A low gurgle broke the stillness that had gathered in the atmosphere between them.

"Was that you?" Gin inquired.

"Y-yes..." Kaien flushed, folding his arms around his stomach in a futile attempt to stifle the noise. "I didn't have dinner at all this afternoon..."

"I have a candy bar," Gin said, and shuffling could be heard as he rifled through the pockets of his hakama, followed by the crinkling of the wrapper as he withdrew it.

"Its a little melted, but..." Gin peeled away the foil, and Kaien leaned forward a little, mouth watering at the delicious smell of chocolate.

"Can I have some?" he asked, sounding desparate.

Gin grinned. "Nope," he replied, and bit into his snack. Kaien slumped back up against the wall, grumbling angrily. Outside, the sounds of Byakuya demolishing the barracks continued in vigor.

It was going to be a long night...

Kaien's stomach growled again.
