I don't own Band of Brothers (just the DVD set). This story is based on the characters from the miniseries and not the amazingly heroic men.

Nixon pulled on the tarp covering his friend's foxhole and slipped inside, careful not to land on Winters's form, which was curled up against the side. He took off his helmet and glanced over at Winters, whose eyes had dark circles under them. "Wow Dick, you look tired."
Winters shifted. "I am tired."
"Are you cold?" Nixon blew on his hands as he rubbed them together.
"I manage."
"I was hoping you were going to say that you're warm and toasty because I'm cold and in desperate need of a warm up. That's why I wandered all the way over here."
Winters shook his head and sighed. He lifted up the blanket. "You can stay here, if you want."
Nixon went under the offered blanket and snuggled close to Winters. "Thanks. Hey, I was thinkin'. Can you imagine if we met at some other place, at some other time?"
"Like…?"
"Like a few years before all this. In New Jersey."
"I doubt that would have happened. If I wasn't in the army, I would have been at home. I don't usually go outside my home state. Plus, why would I even be in New Jersey?"
"I'll have you know that New Jersey is a wonderful place. There are beaches and other fun to be had. And yours truly was born there."
"That's my point." Winters smiled.
"Ooh, you wound me." Nixon chuckled and took a pull from his flask. "I want to take you some place. Some place nice. Remember when I said I'd take you to Chicago?"
"Yes." It seemed like such a long time ago, right before their D-Day jump.
"I really had meant it. I'll take you anywhere you want to go after all this European hoopla is over. Just make a list." Nixon had the means; he knew his friend just wanted to get away after the war was over. And he could make it happen: the two of them being free from the harshness of war, going wherever they felt like, as long as they were together…
"Home," Winters whispered.
"Pennsylvania." Nixon nodded. He guessed Winters just wanted to go back to country life with his family and be at peace. He was slightly disappointed until Winters replied,
"No, wherever you are."
Nixon smiled widely and put an arm around Winters. "I can do that."
