*Imagine Duncan Around 16-18 Age*
Duncan POV
"I hear my parents talking about Rosie, my sister. How I miss her dearly. I guess she'd rather be in a band." I think to myself as I look at pond water through my microscope. A couple minutes later, my parents knock on my door. "Come in!" I yell. They walk in and close the door. "Duncan, sweetheart," my Mom starts out. This isn't going to be good, I can tell. "We know how much you miss Rosie and everything so your Father and I decided that we'll adopt a daughter. Couldn't you imagine it? You'll have a li-."
I begin screaming "Rosie isn't anyone to replace! She's my sister! I want her back, no replacement!" I breathe heavily as my parents stare at me in disbelief. I suspect that my nostrils are flaring at this point. My Mom moves closer to me and hugs me. I knew she was upset about Rosie too and eventually I calmed down. "Duncan, we know we can't replace her. We just want more life in this house, you know?" My Mother said. I stare at her then at my father. "You can pick out your new sister. How does that sound?" My Father says. I nod depressingly and hug my parents, wanting to cry.

Kristen POV
This is my life so far. I wake up, eat breakfast, do my morning chores, go to school, eat lunch, do my afternoon chores, shower, eat dinner and go to bed. That's what it has been since I've came to this horrible orphanage. I hate living here and I just wish my parents were still alive.

I'm doing my chores like usual when one day I see a family walk in. They seemed a bit strange but appealing. The one person I picked out was this massivly tall, blonde haired geek with glasses. He was kind of cute but not in no dating way. I just stare and watch the family at the counter.
"Hello, we were looking for a little girl." The older man says as I overhear what they say. They nod and talk some more, not wanting to cause any attention to myself, I start working again.
All of the sudden, I get called over by Marissa, a woman who works here ever since I got here. I stop, get up and walk over shyly. The teen boy I was talking about looked at me and just stared at me like I did something bad. "Yes, Marissa?" I say quietly. She explains why they're here and how she told them my story. I get a bit angry because of that but I don't show it and just nod. I hear the words I've wanted to hear all my life...
"They picked you." I was so happy and I didn't wait for her to tell me to go get packed. I ran up the stairs as fast as I can and into my room. I take out my duffel bag and pack everything that's mine.

Duncan POV
My parents said they would let me pick but they chose after hearing her "sad" story. Just makes me so mad! AGHHHHHHHHHHH! She seemed happy to get out of here though.. kind of see why. The wallpaper is peeling off the wall, the rugs stink like mad, and all the children do here is chores. I would hate it but then again, I would of built some sort of machinery to do it for me.
"Oh look, here's our little Kris coming back again." My Mom says in a little child voice, ugghhh. Kristen struggles with her bag a little and when I see that she is, my Father nudges my shoulder to help her. I slumply walk over and pick it up, walking to the car. My parents are doing the paperwork for Kristen so she's just following me. She walks out the door to fresh air and as soon as I see her again, I can tell she hasn't been outside in ages.
"So, this is our car?" Kristen asked. I nod in answer and all she does is smile and jumps in. I wait outside the car for my parents and a few minutes later, they come outside. I get in, not wanting to get too close to the Thing, I stay closer to the door. "We're on our way home!" my Mom squeals. I roll my eyes and think to myself "Death has started."
