Labeled
Just an idea I had after Sherlock said Always the addict to Joan in one of the episodes, it just made me think that maybe Sherlock knows that her is labelled by all of them but he has given up on changing their minds.
Sorry it's so short.
He could tell by the way they looked at him. The careful sideways glances they thought he couldn't see. The worried looks he tried to ignore but knew were still there behind his back. He noticed it happened especially when he was excited, angry or showing any outward emotion. Then they would treat him like glass, something that might shatter at any moment, and he hated it, hated the constant 'are you okay's?' And the careful glances and worried looks almost did his head in.
He wanted them to see him as a man and treat him as one not as a half shadow who needed protecting. Because deep down he knew he was okay, and he would even be good as soon as he escaped the constant labels that surrounded him like smoke.
He knew he was 'labeled', by everyone he ever came into contact with that knew him. Because even when he would have punched in the mouth anyone who spoke to him the way he spoke to them. They were nice and patient ,and it made him want to grab them and shout that he had changed that he didn't need babysitting any more that he was okay now. Even though he knew it wouldn't make a difference to them, they didn't care that he was different now because what he used to be was so much more exciting.
So he went along with it he answered the questions and ignored the looks, because he knew to them he would always be the addict and nothing he would or could say would change that in their eyes.
End
