"Cas, buddy come on," Dean awkwardly shuffled over to the angel standing across the room in jeans and a sweatshirt. It was a new look for Castiel, the denim rough against his skin and worn, hole-y sleeves rolling over his cracked hands.
"Whaddya say we go into town and get a few drinks, some burgers? Get your mind off some thingsā¦" Dean had a look of sympathy on his face, such a look that could melt hearts and bring tears to eyes. Castiel looked up at Dean with a broken heart and nodded at his gesture. Dean felt like a big brother helping his sibling with his first break-up. He helped Cas with his jacket and put an assuring hand to his back as the two men trudged out the door.
As they drove into town barely a word was spoken between the two, until Cas broke the silence with one question for Dean. "Dean, have you ever experienced a heart-break?" Ha, Dean Winchester experience a broken heart? That lead to another silence, so quiet you could hear the gears working in Dean's head bringing back memories that threatened to draw a tear to his eye. He finally broke the silence after what seemed like years to the man in the passenger seat.
"My mom, when she uh, when she died. That was my first broken heart. Then Sammy going off to college and leaving my dad and I, it killed me. I was so lost without my baby brother, my best friend. My whole life in school I was the heartbreaker, girls and even guys falling head over heels for Dean Winchester, the heartthrob," a faint smile crept onto his face with the sparkle in his eyes as he thought of the girls in high school. The light from motels were shining on the hood and glaring through the wind shield, slightly reflecting blue lights on Castiel's face. The Impala shining like a sleek bullet in the night pulled into a mom-and-pop's style diner into a corner parking space some distance away from the establishment.
Inside it was warm with the smell of coffee in the air and an old, unheard-of seventy's song playing not too loudly, but audible. An older waitress with bright blue eyeshadow and an almost-peach-colored lipstick gave an inviting smile and motioned for them to follow. She sat Dean and Castiel down and asked for a drink order.
"Two bottles, please, and we have our orders. I'll take a bacon cheeseburger and hmm, make that two for the both of us," he flashed a winning Winchester smile and the waitress, Eleanor as her name tag read, wrote the orders and walked away.
"Cas, I know you're bummed. But she wasn't worth it anyway dude, chill. Lean back. You're hot, you're gonna get all the chicks, okay? You got me on your side, don't worry about anything." Dean gave Cas that winning smile, too. That smile could let you believe anything, honestly.
Dean and Cas devoured the burgers, discussing music and cars and what Cas has seen while he was gone. Castiel honestly believed that everything would be okay because of that smile and the sparkle in Dean's green-yellow tinted eyes.
