He ran through the corridors, his sides aching from running non-stop for the seemingly endless time that he had. He couldn't afford to stop, he couldn't stop... He knew it wasn't real, it was only in his head... He couldn't stop his desperate sobs, and it shamed him to know they came from his mouth.

Locked doors were one of the only things in this place that never changed. Well, that and the monsters. Why wouldn't this town just give him one goddamn break?

The creaking of the pipes and rusted metal around him put him on edge, straining his eyes to pick out the sounds of real danger among the false alarms. A strange scuffling reached his ears and he shot back from the wall where he'd rested, pulling out a pistol. His shaking hands opened the cartridge, re-affirming his ammo levels.

He should've stayed away, never come here. It was all a mistake, and he should have never tempted fate.

The scuffling grew louder and he cocked his gun, readying it for whatever monster that may appear.

And, really, it wasn't all of his fault either. He just happened to come here at a bad time, a really freakin' bad time. And the people he'd met were crazy... There must be only one person that wasn't completely unhinged... He didn't count himself after all that he'd been through.

The monster must be right around the corner because his radio was going absolutely nuts. The crackling static made his head ache...

It almost seemed as thought the town was trying to tell him something, thought for the life of him, he couldn't figure it out. The other's must have felt the same thing, after all, they were pulled here by the town too. It made him feel better it wasn't only him.

The creature made the mistake of stepping out from the wall it had previously been, and a few rounds later, it was no longer a problem.

But, he had to admit, you had to be mad as a hatter to fire a gun at something so easily. It was like - like it was his job now or something.

I bet you could make good money if there was a job like that. 'Monster Exterminator - We solve all your monster problems!'

He nearly cracked up at the thought and finished the twitching monster with a swift stomp to the head and a satisfying crunch of bone.

That was another thing that told him he was bonkers - cracking something in the skull like it was no big deal. It was beginning to be a normal thing, sure, but that didn't mean it had to be so routine. Maybe he should mix it up next time. He stepped over the body away from that dumb locked door and headed down the next hallway.

God they had bad, bad lighting; even he could have done a better job with the place, and, to tell the truth, he had no knowledge of how to work electronics or electricity, whatsoever.

Another run in with a monster got him thinking - what if there wasn't just sane and insane people in this world? But he never had to time to really get into it, as he was distracted by another locked door.

These locked doors, and no key to open 'em with. No doubt he'd have to go through some crazy puzzle to get it, and he didn't feel quite up to it anymore.

He passed by a map suddenly and nearly fell over himself to go back and get it, fearing that if he let it be for even a second it'd be gone forever.

He spotted a red something before getting knocked over by an unknown monster that he hadn't noticed approaching; the tense aura around that red... thing, distracting him so completely as to not even hear to radio buzzing.

His sight went blurry and death's cold finger's dragged him down...

He shot away from the wall he previously been resting on, grabbing his pistol, ready to shot the monster approaching him, down.

He stopped for just a moment before shrugging off the strangest sense of déjà-vu.
