"I've never seen anything like this off-world before sir."
"What is it?"
"Well, it resembles a common element we have on Earth. I'd say it's..."
"Carter, can you just tell me what it is without the whole scientific part?"
This earns a smile from her. My smile, that special one that she only uses on me.
"As best as I can tell sir, it's a sapphire."
Oh, how I could have done without that word, sapphire. See, it gets me to thinking about...other things.
Like blue. The color blue has played such a huge role in my life the past eight years. Among those things, is blue food. Blue Jello, blue this, and blue that. She happens to love it.
She also looks incredibly good in blues. I love it when she wears the blue BDU's. They set off the color of my most favorite thing.
Her eyes.
They're the most pure, wild, caring, wonderful things about her. There are probably a million words that could be used to describe her eyes, but I don't have the patience or the brains to name them all.
They, just like her, are beautiful. They remind me of sapphires, which brings me back to reality long enough to hear her finish up her little speech.
"...and that's basically it."
"Carter?"
"Yes sir?"
"How would you like to go out to dinner with me tonight?"
"Might I ask what the occasion is?"
"Just two friends, going out to dinner. Gazing into each others eyes over a candle-lit dinner…"
Doh!
"Um, Sir?"
"I said that out loud didn't I?"
"Yeah, but I would love to. Sounds like fun."
As she rises up from her seated position on the ground, I sit there for a moment stunned. She accepted. And she said it would sound like fun to gaze into each other's eyes over a candle-lit dinner.
Wow. I have a date with Sam.
~fin~
Okay, it's done. If you're nice enough, I might do something relating to this. Cryptic aren't I?
