He came home to the dark, abandoned apartment and was exhausted. He was tired but it was more than that. Much more than that.
Taking off his shirt, he reached into his dresser and grabbed a new wife beater. All he wanted to do was drink away the pain but he just couldn't at this point. But what in reality, he wanted to talk to her.
He wanted to talk to Lindsay.
He just couldn't bring himself to telling her. He would come close but just couldn't. She thinks that it was because of Ruben that he became distant.
Instead, he turned to a woman who was in such torment and despair as he was. Rikki was his drug and he acted on it. It was wrong and both of them admitted to it, but they couldn't stop. It was only one night but to both of them, it was many nights of pain.
He headed towards the kitchen and looked out into the rainy night. Trickles of rain cascaded off the awning and onto the fire escape. He tried so hard to talk to her in the morgue but she wanted to talk later and not in there. He could tell that she wanted to talk but it was not time.
He needed to speak to her now and he prayed that she would take the call.
She had to get out and walk in the rain. She felt that her apartment was closing in on her and when she walked, she got a lot of things off her chest.
All she could think about is Danny. Pushing her away broke her heart. She couldn't understand why he couldn't come to her about it. He flew to Montana when she needed him so why couldn't he come to her about Ruben?
Her IPhone began to ring and she looked at it and saw the goofy picture that he put on her phone. She couldn't help but smile at it.
"Hey," they both answer. "Where are you?" Danny asked, hoping for a response.
"Out for a rain walk." It's a Montana thing. You wouldn't understand."
"Yeah, maybe I would." Danny said, looking towards the side window," Maybe there is a lot of things I understand now, how about that?"
"Yeah, like what?" Lindsay said, her pace picked up as she spoke.
"Like how sorry I am for pushing you away."
"Danny, I tried to give you your space, I don't know how much longer I can feel alone. It's messing with my work, it's breaking my heart."
"I know, I know, I do. I swear to God it won't happen again." Danny said, his face showing a mixture of emotion.
She couldn't help but smile at him.
"Lindsay, the truth is, the truth is, I miss you, more than I can say. Even if I don't know how to say it."
Do you have any idea how hard you are to love?" Lindsay said, smiling.
"Why don't you come over here and tell me in person? Please?"
"I've got to go." Lindsay said, heading for the subway to head back home.
Danny hit the off button on his phone and ran his hands in his hair. He loves her so much that he was pleading with her to come over. And he knows that he has to give her time. Right now they are two ships passing in the night. Given time, they will meet soon and when it happens, it will be perfect.
