Money Matters

"Cloud!"

The blonde sighed warily as he stood up from the couch and made his way to the kitchen. He could tell by his girlfriend's tone that she wasn't very happy with something. As he approached the room, he could see her leaning against the table with her arms crossed and her eyes narrowed dangerously. Cloud unconsciously gulped.

"Cloud, could you explain this?" she asked with fake sweetness as she thrust a piece of paper under his nose. Frowning in confusion, he took it and scanned it over.

"Ah…" he said.

"Ah?" she repeated, snatching it back from him. "Is that all you can say? Cloud, why would you ever need to take that amount of money out?"

He ran a hand through his hair sheepishly and glanced around the room as if he could find a suitable answer in the corner somewhere. After a moment, he cleared his throat and let his hand land by his side again.

"Well, Fenrir broke down and…"

"I should have known it had something to do with that motorbike," she muttered darkly.

"Well I do need the bike for deliveries!" he replied, the annoyance beginning to show in his voice. She folded her arms and shook her head.

"I know you do but you spend so much money on it when really all you need is fuel and insurance!"

"And breakdowns!" he muttered. She acted as if she hadn't heard and turned her head away. Cloud shifted slightly.

"Okay, if you really want to know it wasn't for Fenrir," he sighed. She frowned and slowly looked back at him. He was silent and looked at the floor.

"Then what was it for?" she asked gently, her anger turning into curiosity.

"I wanted to surprise you," he answered before he reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box. She watched as he placed it on the table and scooted it towards her. Aerith gave him a raised eyebrow as she picked it up and opened it.

"Oh…" she breathed softly as she gently pulled out a silver necklace with a large pink gem in the middle.

"Happy anniversary," he whispered sweetly, pulling her into an embrace. She was stunned for a moment before she frowned.

"Huh? This isn't our anniversary Cloud," she said with a slight laugh. "We started dating on August the twentieth."

"Yes I know but we met a year ago today and I've loved you every single day since." She grinned in response, a slight blush on her cheeks.

"But you didn't have to spend so much on me," she replied, looking down at the necklace again. He reached forward and took it from her hand. She turned and lifted her hair over her shoulder so that he could put it on for her. He kissed her cheek lightly when he was done.

"You're worth every penny," he answered. She giggled and turned her head slightly so their lips could meet in a proper kiss.
