Artemis Fowl. The name alone use to be enough to make fairies shiver, but now it only makes them weep. The loss of the only human to ever be actively involved with the underground society. His name was somewhat of a legend, a story for fairies to whisper to their children at night. No one ever shouted his name. You do not disgrace him by bringing him the attention he hated but so very deserved, even when he was not present. No one would dare talk condescendingly about him, out of pure respect. He had done as much, possibly more, for the fairies society than any hero in the history of the people. His name was added to the Book, forever honoured there, acknowledging him as a friend of the people, one of only two people to ever gain that title, the other being the late Domovio Butler. Artemis was missing, but the People still had hope.
Artemis Fowl stood at the 'door' to his home, his heterochromatic eyes swiping the barren white wasteland that was his sanctuary. His eyes moved methodically, searching for any threats, any disturbances, the eyes of a predator. He had been alone for 17 years now, living in solitary in a cave system high in the Swiss Alps. Only one person alive knew where he was, the other was technically deceased. He had been alone, peaceful, but alone. To the rest or the world, surface and below, he had disappeared of the face of the earth. He was actually living in a self-sustainable cave biome, given to him by a living skeleton. As weird as that sounds, that same skeleton and his partner had also taught him magic, elemental magic. In return Artemis had found the two an old friend that they had both presumed dead but was actually alive and like him in hiding. But that is a whole different story.
Tragedy, that's what Artemis Fowl had been through. 18 years ago he was called to his father's office at 6 in the morning, when everyone else was still asleep, and his father gave him a lecture about how he had failed the Fowl name. His father then picked up a gun pointed at Artemis, told him that it was all his fault, before putting the end in his mouth and pulling the trigger. Artemis traumatised, had then gone down to Butlers' room where his oldest friend and bodyguards' corpse lay in an office chair, a bullet in his chest and "It on you" scrawled on the wall in his blood, by Artemis Seniors' hand. Juliet's room was the same, and Angeline was lying face down on her marriage bed. He had sent the newly orphaned Twins to a billionaire, and according to his informants they were now 28 and fighting aliens in a weaponised set of armour in the middle of Manhattan. He could still remember his final words to them, "Changing the world was my dream, now it's yours, do me proud." Myles Fowl, now 'Anthony Stark' and Becket Fowl, his secret brother had certainly changed the world.
Artemis breathed in deeply before turning on his heel and striding back into his cave to complete his next, very promising project. He still had access to his fortune, using a fake alias, and he still planed on changing the world, not the surface, but underneath.
