Disclaimer: Naoko Takeuchi owns Sailor Moon. I own the story's plot.
She pressed the dagger into her flesh, opening a shallow slash in her palm, and turned her hand over. The blood welled up and ran down her fingers, pooling at the tips.
"With this shed blood I, High Princess Serenity Angelique the thirteenth of the royal family of Lunaria, hereby renounce my claim to the throne of Lunaria."
One drop fell and sparked against the inlaid royal crest of the floor. The lines in the crest shone brightly for a scant moment, recognizing the vow, then became inert again.
"With this shed blood I, Princess Serenity Angelique the thirteenth of the royal family of Lunaria, hereby renounce my ties to the royal family of Lunaria."
Another drop fell and sparked again, and the crest again recognized her oath.
"With this shed blood I, Serenity, set myself apart from any power and any authority that exists in any world and any time. I, Serenity, am henceforth my own power and my own authority, wherever and whenever I may be."
A third and final drop fell, and this time it was the very pattern of reality, rippling and shimmering, that accepted her words.
The woman who was now Serenity flicked her blood from the dagger and sheathed it at her hip as she dragged her tongue over the blade-broken skin of her palm. The wound was gone, healed without a trace, when she lowered her hand.
"Serenity," the queen said, but she couldn't think of anything else to say. "Serenity…"
Serenity bowed, utterly formal.
Then she turned and walked away from the queen that was not her mother and the palace that was not her home.
This was bouncing around in my head about a year ago and I had to get it down before I lost it. Hopefully inspiration will come and bite me on the butt so that I can keep going on it.
