Icarus Falls, Daedalus Abides
Spoilers: Colonial Day and KLG pt. 1
Rating: K
Summary: In the end, he has to let her go.
Disclaimer: Battlestar Galactica doesn't belong to me. The story and the ideas contained within do belong to me.
He knows what Kara's going to do the instant D tells him Kara wants to talk to him.
How much longer 'til we reach Earth?
He wants to tell her he had to lie. He wanted to protect her, to keep her hope going. He didn't want to see disillusion in her eyes. He didn't realize it was already there.
It's hard to say.
It's not that he doesn't trust her. Kara has never given him a reason not to. She drinks, she fights, she's not afraid to tell people exactly what she thinks about them, but all of that makes him trust her more. Kara is not afraid of other people's opinions. Kara will always be Kara.
You got a guess?
He knows exactly who told Kara and, not for the first time, he is furious. Roslin had no right to hurt Kara like that. No right to shatter Kara's belief. No right to destroy Kara's trust in him. Roslin took Kara and used her.
You know I don't like to guess.
Kara might disobey orders if she thought they were idiotic, but she disobeyed his orders because she was hurt. Roslin counted on that. Counted on hurting the one person she could hurt most by saying Earth is a lie. Counted on Kara needing something else to believe in once she didn't believe in him.
We getting closer?
He doesn't believe that Roslin is a leader promised by the Lords of Kobol, no matter what she points to in the Scriptures. She is simply obsessed. He can't believe that someone promised by the Lords would be ruthless. Would use an innocent. Would hurt Kara.
I'm sure we are.
He almost wishes Zarek had won the Vice Presidency. If a terrorist is defined by ruthlessness and destruction, Roslin is also a terrorist. She is worse than Zarek, because she is a terrorist who believes she is backed by religion, who believes she is blessed by the Lords of Kobol. At least Zarek pretends to have the best interests of the people in mind. At least Zarek would be closely watched. At least Zarek is openly known to be a terrorist. Roslin hides behind the Scriptures. At least he could shoot Zarek out of the sky if he did anything that remotely resembled terrorist activities. Roslin is a terrorist of ideas. It is harder to kill a terrorist of that type. But he wants to. He wants Zarek to.
I believed in you, believed in Earth.
He wants to tell her all of this. He wants to tell her he trusts her. He wants to tell her Roslin hurt him too. He wants to tell her he's sorry. He wants to tell her he loves her.
Be sure that whatever you're gonna do, you don't regret it later.
He lets her go.
