Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who
My entire life I had always been looking for something. I took after my father in that way. He was always looking for answers. He spent his time in libraries and universities. Always going off on little treasure hunts. Never minding if he found what he hunted for, he simply liked the looking. After he died I, Ursula Blake, suddenly understood his need for a quest. The urge to search for something greater than what to watch on telly that night. But I felt the need to find it.
I've always been considered a little odd. My voice is much too quiet and I'm too skinny. I preferred to spend my time buried in books or searching the internet. Always looking for something to look for. An adventure of my very own. That's how I learned about him.
It started as a few inquisitive emails. Someone I met on a forum who kept writing such fantastic fiction about such a remarkable man. They were my favorite. Filled with illogical reason and ridiculous tales of a man who never aged popping throughout ourhistory. I vividly remembered one late night IM session with WhoIsThisMan42. I was curled up on my bed in my father's oversized sweater.
"How do u come up w/ such stories? They r gr8t!"
"You don't understand. These are based on real accounts. I've been searching for him for years."
Sipping my cooled tea I felt the cold prickle of adrenaline.. It couldn't be real. That such a man could exist. I got the URL for WhoIsThisMan42's website and stared at the evidence. Photos, paintings, engravings, records, and oral histories. Clive, as WhoIsThisMan42's turned out to be, was searching for a man who defied all logic. A man who seems to appear throughout history either helping or hindering it. Quiet enough not to be noticed by the history books but obvious enough to make an immense impression to so many people.
I began looking up other sites and discovered this man could either remain untouched by age for hundreds of years or change his face completely. History was sprinkled with whispers of his long, long life. Many people were looking for him. Several claimed to have known him. All the accounts were different. Different face, time, place, language, and different poeple with him. But two things remained constant. His name which isn't really a name and a blue box. Oh, to be able to ask him questions. To sit at his feet and discover how and why and who. To simply be part of his history as he is part of ours.
And that's how it began. That is how I finally found my something to look for. That is how I started searching for The Doctor.
